From this I get that we may have been confusing Facility J, which has definitely been identified as a "State-of-the-art Govt Facility" with "The Project" which Jay seems to be implying is a privately funded research project under the auspices of OPA and utilizing laboratory resources at Facility J ...

Oh, and here's a perl script I wrote which automates the codon/shift decryption. Command line only I'm afraid -- it takes the DNA sequence as the first argument, and the shifts as the second.

$codons = shift();
$shifts = shift();

The dipeptide for the first sequence before being encrypted (atcga.c) is [I-D]. ID, as in identification? However, the dipeptide after encrypting is [Stop-F]. I don't know how to take that further. The alternate dipeptide didn't get me anywhere either.

I don't understand. I got STAR from the full aminoacid names, not abreviations. Or are you referring to something else?
