It was reported that following the last meeting held in Birtley the police have dedicated resources to the area to combat the problems that were raised:

Operation Aphid was carried out for six weeks to tackle crime and disorder and to increase public reassurance. Youth workers were also involved to help divert children from anti-social behaviour. During this period there were 20 arrests for drug related offences and 15 for anti-social behaviour. When compared to the same period last year crime decreased by 50% and disorder decreased by 35% as a direct result of this operation;
