What's with the guns?
Is it just me, or is suddenly everyone who makes a fan video showing up with a gun? I can't say it makes me at all comfortable.

Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.

Brucker, I apologize for my part of it. I'm only doing it as a joke!

It's a dilemma. Unfortunately it's been established that the Order uses guns so it's going to be tough to fight them without guns although Batman finds a way doesn't he?Brucker wrote:Is it just me, or is suddenly everyone who makes a fan video showing up with a gun? I changed my Av. Well, two people have been shot so far, but we never actually saw it happen, nor did we see a gun. That is interesting to me!

"He's the one who likes all our pretty songs, and he likes to sing along, and he likes to shoot his gun, but he... knows not what it means... knows not what it means..."
"White man turns the corner, finds himself within a different world
Ghetto kid grabs his shoulder, throws him up against the wall
He says, 'Would you respect me... if I didn't have this gun?
Cause without it, I don't get it, and thats why I carry one.' "
There is a vid here and there that pretty much reflects these lines. There are some that incorporate weapons tastefully, and those that downright want you to see how mighty they are by waving one around. It's like watching any movie today where gunplay is involved (Underworld, Collateral, Bourne *sighs all dreamlike*). When done tastefully, and exercising common sense, I wouldn't mind seeing them used.
Marbella is right... adding weapons to LG15 action sequences added a sense of suspense to the moment that I know kept me hanging! As much as we hate to admit it, violence, in its smallest form, draws attention and holds interest. Hey, it worked for the Romans and their gladiators, didn't it?
I know... we worry about "copycats" (especially underaged ones), and the harm that could follow. There's even a worry that some filmmakers of the fan vids won't exercise as much caution as they should. I think it might help to set guidelines, not harsh, but more advisory and suggesting how to properly incorporate, and even in some cases, handle these weapons.
For instance, certain weapons may not be permitted in some areas. Here in NJ, bb guns, airsoft pistols, concealed weapons and the like are prohibited. (Despite that, this is still a fun state. Honest!)

Immo, you've been known to kill with a single strain of "It's Peanut Buttah Jelly Time!"
Forget Batman... that's what I call talent!

I was going to use a gun to shoot a watcher in a video and the Creators beat me to it!
I love ya Lum, but innocence can only last so long.
I see no problem with the guns. Guns exist. People use them.

I think it really depends on what audience you are trying to attract. LG15 is PG-13 but that doesn't mean fan creations have to be. It seems like where the Creators have drawn the line is that you can shoot guns but not actually show the shooting by keeping it obscured or off screen and by not showing a body.Linc wrote:So, where in past vids have they been appropriate, and where is it stretching? It would probably be beneficial for everyone considering this particular prop to get some examples.
My personal opinion is that shootings and kills in general should be reserved for high stakes moments otherwise it dulls the impact. ex: Star Trek red shirts.
Just to re-emphasize I'll quote again:
Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.
-Isaac Asimov
Yes, violence exists. Yes people use guns, and kill other people. And I chose not to invite this into my home as entertainment. Frankly, I just don't find it entertaining.
There are other, more intelligent solutions to having your life threatened, or protecting your property and people you love, and I for one, am far more interested in seeing these intelligent solutions played out. It makes for a much more interesting story. Guns provide lazy, cheap thrills. They get our adrenaline rushing, and that's about it.
Note: Marbella - "Crazy Guy" is the only person that has been shot conclusively in the LG15 story so far. The Jury is still out on Gemma. We really don't have enough evidence. Even the Creators have not confirmed she was shot.

How quickly we forget Bree's Dad. The shooting was witnessed by the characters and the Creators said on MixedMedia that Bree's dad is indeed dead.Luminous wrote:Note: Marbella - "Crazy Guy" is the only person that has been shot conclusively in the LG15 story so far.
