Gemma's accent is real???
I just saw on Jackie Jandrell's lgpedia page that she is from South Africa, but she moved and lived in England for many years. Wow... and I thought she was just an American girl doing a very shoddy accent.
Apparently a lot of other people thought so too. How was this confirmed, and what are your thoughts on that?

yea Jackie could have had the accent originally but just tried to emphasize it for the sake of the show. it would make sense that gemma would have decided to emphasize her accent in her vids so that she would seem more "authentically london" so as not to cause suspicion. maybe we were supposed to find her accent fake in the first place, as a clue that she wasn't telling the truth to Bree.
I'd be interested to see if Gemma is in another vid and, if so, if she has a less britishy accent in it... (that would resolve whether it was gemma or jackie who was faking...)

I live in London, and have a few friends that have equally bizarre accents, from living all over the place. The South African accent sounded pretty loopy to my American ears the first time I heard it, mainly because I was fairly used to British or Australian accents, and the SA accent sounded a bit like those two put in a blender together with some other mystery components.Beckers wrote:Her accent is real it is just muttled from her living in different places....she mentioned it in a message once before.
Sooo... I will say that if Gemma's accent was meant to be straight-up British, two thumbs down. However, she sounds a lot like a friend of mine who grew up between SA, Britain and Australia, so I'm not so sure that Gemma's accent is down to being a poor fake.
(As an interesting side note, this video on YouTube has some commentary going from New Zealanders about whether or not the accents are real, stemming partly from the fact that they never hear their own accents on film, according to one poster.)
