Top 10 Techniques For Bringing A Loved One Back After An NRM

Post by SARAHPHOBIA88 »

Jonas,

I saw your request for help, but I cannot make it to chat. I gave these to Daniel, and was hoping he might see them to. I hope you will see that these techniques can be very helpful.

This could be a long, hard road. Be patient. When I saw Bree hug you tonigh, I really feel like Bree is progressing. Looks like some regression...

Anyways, I have found these useful in times of need. Yes, I have had some similar experiences. A Story for another time. For now, I hope the best for all of you.

Here are my Top 10 Techniques For Bringing A Loved One Back After an NRM (New Religious Movement):

1. Round the clock watch over her.
2. Do not physically force her to do anything else.
3. Give her lots of water.
4. Start a normal diet with the regular food groups.
5. Let her talk, or not talk. But, do not force your words upon her.
6. Tough love is always best, but do not "smother" her with words or restraint.
7. Do not mention her being "brainwashed"/she may shut down on you. (Say the least amount you can about the HoO.)
8. She needs nurturing. So, be gentle.
9. She may refuse to eat, that is OK. Try "ensure" drinks, for nutrients.
10. If she starts to come around a little, if too much is pushed upon her in excitement, she is starting to see things clearly, she could go right back into denial.

Good luck Jonas, and play safe!!

Hey Jonas,

You are doing a fabulous job with Bree. Keep doing what you're doing -- it looks like it's working! I think the bond you two were developing before she left with the Order is pulling her out of her fog. I know it's tough to have it all on your shoulders, but don't let Daniel get to you -- he's just worried and stressed. Go easy on him, and keep doing whatever is working for Bree.

SARAH's tips are really good, and it sounds like she speaks from experience. Just add these in to what you have been doing.

Good luck!

One more thing, Jonas... I'm definitely not a "professional exit counselor" by any means, but as my name implies, I have some training in psychology. I couldn't get into chat, but if you have any questions or just need someone to help you process everything you are going through, I'll do the best I can!
