Ahh, but it was much better before! Now it's just to easy. :P I had so much fun figuring out the messed up part. :D Putting the code in the wrong box was a pretty nice idea that's gone now. :(

I was about to post what I had so far to ask you for a hint. Ok, I'll post it in a moment...

Here's the original (I'll space it here but you have to remove them for the coding to work):

This is in the b64 box, but it isn't (cool idea, putting the code in the "wrong box"). Looks like decimal as there's no a-f hex digits. This you have to space it by hand as decimal ascii for the decoder to be able to parse it correctly:

Code: Select all

Decimal ascii > text:
Woo my first puzzle...Easy so far eh?
Not for long... o—½kßyi¾^õ×»õÞý = 4c8dcmq ...Building up the suspense...Watch out for Necromancers... they like to kill other players.....they go wiki after people...those tiny elementalists will be gone in a flash...why did the warrior make a bucket account?...and why base it on the template? He said not to forget /album/w168/....?
4c8dcmq not a tinyurl, but...
http://tinypic.com/4c8dcmq
Guild Wars Specialty Fansite
Necromancers going wiki looks like a clue to use wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guild_wars
An image of the guild characters: Elementalist, Mesmer, Monk, Necromancer, Ranger, Warrior.
From the image, Elementalists are not tiny. Must be a clue to the tinypic.
http://photobucket.com/album/w168/<album name>

The messed up part encodes from text > b64,

Code: Select all

o—½kßyi¾^õ×»õÞý > b5e9a995ab5e9de79d79
But the b64 turned out to be hex! Decode from hex,

Code: Select all

b5e9a995ab5e9de79d79 > templateneedeQ==
That's in the b64 box, but it's plain text (with a little glitch). No biggie, looks like templateneeded. Must be some GuildWars thing, maybe a clue for the photobucket album? Ok that's all I got so far.

Now the new version is just b64 straight to text:
Easy so far? Well not for long...b5 e9 a9 95 ab 5e 9d e7 9d 79... Necromancers can be quite dangerous and love to kill other players...Especially TINY elementalists even though they go up with a FLASH...he said something about 4c8dcmq....almost as wierd as that warrior he kicked the BUCKET but his final words were, don't forget the /albums/w168/ ....
Notice the changes in the clues, ALLCAPS make them obvious, FLASH is new (not sure how to use it). The hex part converts straight to templateneeded, no tricky "wrong box" this time :(

Ok so, how to reveal the warrior's album?

So, Wonka, any hints to piecing together Jonas' mumbo jumbo? Who's Shannon anyway?
I don't want to give too much away just yet because there's a part of the puzzle that you guys haven't even come close to getting yet, but I'll give you a few suggestions on what paths not to head down.

1. I did not pick Shannon A. Feldstein because I knew of a person by that full name. (As you had pretty much figured out via Google.) However, someone and something did lead me to use that name.

2. It doesn't matter who is responsible for the slogans.

3. No ROT13. It's interesting you bring that up because I was originally going to use it on the first message from Jonas, but decided against it.

Ok, found the RED HERRING.

It's crazy that ROT13 gives so many anagrams, all the other Ceasarian shifts give much less.

Shannon A. Feldstein anagrams to ANAL FINNED HOTNESS  ...amongst like a million others, slashed, nannies, infants and other crazyness. I hate anagrams.

I have yet to figure out the specific album either. However, in my search I did find this: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page

It's a Wiki specifically for Guild Wars and on the main Guild Wars site it's listed as a "specialty fansite". Perhaps we're supposed to look there instead of Wikipedia.

BTW, I did the steps on my own and before you posted your steps, but by the time I started on my journey he had already edited his post to the simplified version, so it was very easy compared to what you had to do.

Dang good stuff guys...Um..the flash thing was a hint toward tinypic...which u got already so keep going...everything is a clue in that except for the first peice (everything after not for long)...the professions(Necromancer) are also important, look for something that sticks out when you are in the right place......and wonka has the right site...you just have to use the rest of the clues...

 glad that u were able to figure out the first code...=)...it was better

OK, I've searched high and low through that Wiki for things related to words in your puzzle. Checked out the templates, discussions, etc. about different Professions (Necromancer, Elementalist, etc). I must be overlooking something obvious. My hunch is that this is close to the end of the puzzle, so I can't really ask you for any hints because if I'm right, it would just give away the end.

I was reading about templates and there's this way to create your own skills template in a format by putting in some decimal/binary codes for the character's profession, attributes, and skills, and it all gets encoded into b64! Then there was this link for Online decyphering of template code. All of it seemed relevant to me with all the hex and b64 coding we did before. But I don't have a template to try to decode, indeed, templateneeded.

I also read about the professions and searched for certain keywords and couldn't find anything that stood out. I've been looking for that warrior photobucket account. I kind of gave up after researching this for a couple of hours.

Talking about giving up, I guess both of you have given up on mine, or did you think that was it? As I said, you just found the vandalism and never revealed the message covered by it. I thought it strange that you both gave up just as you discovered some revelations when decoding a bit more. I'm not sure if I should eventually post the solution or, instead, leave it there for someone else to attempt?

Sorry, deagol, wasn't ignoring yours. Between blahblablee's puzzle and a small ice storm we had today, I've just been a little sidetracked. I haven't given up yet. Please don't post the solution yet as I'd like to work on it later tonight.

I think your starting point is missing something.

Code: Select all

/3vr+AnArChY+O/+AnArChY+3vrOD

How did you get that?
