Are we squelching the creators' creativity?

Post by Way2Curious »

We can be a very demanding audience. It just occorred to me that we could be squelching the creators creativity a little by always pushing them so hard for what we want to see. This may very well be why there are a few loose ends and why the plot is sometimes fairly predictable. (I'm not complaining, but I have seen others mention it)
I found myself imagining how hard it would be to be creative when I needed to please so many people.

On the other hand I guess they were the ones who said it was interactive and such, and they certainly didn't have to listen to us if they didn't want to.

What do you think?

I don't mean this as an insult to anyone involved with LG15 at all, I love it and will probably be around until the end. I also don't mean it as an insult to anyone in the forums either, as this is something I have participated in as well. I just wanted to see what everybody else thought.

edit: I thought this would be an appropriate place to post this since it relates to the plot. On second look though I may have been wrong, please feel free to move it.

i agree a little, i think the creators should just go along with what was originally planned, even though it's been said they didn't have a script, i'm sure they still had an original vision for it all.

I don't think that we can be considered responsible for "squelching the creators' creativity" at all.

There will always be outspoken consumers of any type of media entertainment. But the creators of that entertainment have absolutely no obligation to listen to any specific suggestions. They need to remain true to their original vision, and to incorporate only those suggestions that are consistent with the original vision and that help bring that vision into reality.

I'm becoming dissatisfied with LG15, and I suspect that my dissatisfaction stems from the creators' listening too much to the audience. Not only is the plot becoming predictable, as you mentioned, but the aspects of LG15 that attracted me in the first place are swiftly disappearing. The Bree who spends her time moping in a motel room and talking to her stuffed animals bears little resemblance to the Bree we first saw, who is remarkably bright and voraciously curious and a fan of Richard Feynmann. And the new characters, Gemma and Jonas, are also personality-free; they're far too obviously plot devices.

If the changes we've seen in the series stem from the creators' paying too much attention to the fans who want "more Owen! More Thor! More P. Monkey!", or those "shippers" who squeal in delight about the possibility of Bree getting together with Daniel/Jonas/the bald Watcher/Lord Greystoke/Brother, or any other noisy fans whose ideas take the series away from the original vision, then that's a damn shame.

Interactivity does not equate to "doing whatever the loudest fans want you to do." It equates to "listening to all suggestions and taking the most intriguing and creative ideas."

Just MHO, of course. If my ideas don't jibe with your vision, please ignore me and go on with what you originally planned.

They want us to tell them what we would like to see, and that was the idea from the beginning, so why would it be a bad thing now to tell them?

I don't think we are hurting their creativity. In the end, its their choice how the story goes. Our ideas are just suggestions.

Nope. We're invited guests.

We're just playing in their sandbox. We use the toys, kick sand around, but in the end it's still THEIR sandbox.

I think very good points have been made by everyone. Its true that even if the creators are listening to us maybe a little too much that it wouldn't be our fault. I don't think anyone should stop suggestions at all, thats not what I meant. I just wanted to know what everybody else thought, and everybody loves reading the results of polls.....right? :)

It had just never occorred to me before how hard it would be to please so many people and still be creative. I was imagining the pressure that they are probably under...

Don't ask me why I hadn't thought about it until now... :)

Creativity? I dunno, but definitely changing the story line

Post by Macabea13 »

I'm pretty new to this, so I don't know if anyone cares, but I think the story line has definitely been changed by the viewers. There are so many loose ends, and a few reversals....( like the religion thing all of a sudden becoming not about religion, gimme a break!)

I don't like it so much, it takes away from what attracted me to this "series" in the beginning. I thought it would be great to search out clues, and do research and learn about all sorts of strange things, and then find out what was really meant. It doesn't seem like it is going that way at all. Instead it seems like an unintentional kind of free-for-all. I want answers, clues that mean something and a story that has an intent. Not a "let's see what they think" kind of story.

What happened to the strange tags? To finding an answer in the clues? To an interesting girl in a very odd world. I don't mind the extra characters, I don't care if it isn't terribly realistic, but I want the AHA! and a few answers here and there. I want reassurance that there is something going on behind this story, not just an erratic, lets see where it goes type of thing. Sure, flexibility is great, but if you are going to plant clues they should probably have a meaning.....

I still believe every clue has a meaning. Maybe not the original meaning (because the Creators have to take certain audience sensitivities into account). Reading through all these threads can be very time consuming but you'll see that most questions that have arisen have a perfectly plausible answer (in the Breeniverse sense).
I wouldn't even be surprised if Cassie pops up again...

lol.

But I think at times, we the audience DO get demanding. We then turn into the kid that goes to your sandbox, kicks dirt in your face, steals and breaks your toys, and spits in your hair.

I have taken the time to read many of the threads! Yes, I have been lurking I suppose, but where are the answers? Have I missed them? What do the tags mean? Why aren't they around any more? Is there a Birthmark? Isn't there? What Acronym does Aphid actually stand for? Gemma's or the OpAphid thing? If I am not supposed to have to watch OpAphid, why is it considered "canon"? What do the Enochian letters mean? What is the clue we got from Longitude? How did our Thelemic Fall equinox ritual translate into some anonymous non-religous Order? Why did any reference to the shots and the pills for the ceremony disappear? I am glad you have faith they will be answered, but I see it going along new threads before it finsihes up the old ones. ( I have peeked around long enough to know you think it is the Illuminati, and have even tried looking at their cryptic number system because of you! To no avail, I might add!)

I am not trying to be obnoxious, though I often obtain that status without trying! :o I just want to know if I am missing something, since I am rather new to this. It simply does not make sense to me....

ps How the heck do I make the quote thing work?

i think you must have missed the threads that comtain those particular answers.

now.. they aren't answers from the creators, that's probably why you think you missed them, but they are very valid and senisble opinions from viewers.
