Lack of dramatic range

Post by onetruegnome »

Please no one spam me over this!

I am not a casting director but I don't think Yousef had great dramatic range and perhaps that is the reason why he is no longer involved in the project.

I loved Daniel in the beginning - he was great when he was the mellow guy hanging out on Bree's bed.

But when it came to showing complex depth and emotion - he fell flat. Observe the video when he broke into Lucy's apartment. His reaction afterwards were not realistic.

Reading that apparent Blog comment - I feel really bad for the actor as a person. He appears hurt - but the Creators are like any other employer - if someone's performance is not up to par - they will let them go - even if they are the most popular guy in the office.

I am not saying Yosef is a bad actor - he may have to work on showing emotion. In some cases he shines. He's enjoyable and not repulsive as are some characters on TV.

If by chance the actor reads these forums I wish him luck in his future endeavours! Don't give up on acting just yet!

Again, since this is a post about Daniel/Yousef and not linked to plot developments, I'm moving this to the Daniel section.

Yousef is not going anywhere

I happen to disagree with you. His portrayal of "deadpan Daniel" is the perfect foil to Jess' "Bree".

I tend to agree. I think he plays an 18-year-old "everyman" really well.

As I've posted before, I think Yousef is a better actor than Jessica. The Daniel character is a realist and introverted thinker; he sees how serious this situation is, and doesn't tell Bree everything he thinks for fear of frightening her.

Yeah, i have to take trainer101's description, if you dont mind, about "deadpan Daniel". Thats the best way to put it; I think Yousef is hilarious as that part in my opinion.
And I disagree as well, I think that he can show a perfect range of emotions, he's an awesome actor.
If he got fired, and they had to get another actor to play him, I dont think I would have as much interest in it anymore.
Kind of like the whole Harry Potter-Dumbledore thing.
Whoops--little off topic.
