Actually, the compass needle is pointing North by Northeast.

Since this is a stock photo, perhaps the "N" gives us the actual traveling direction? But from the drop site, or another location?

For the record, the stock photo of the compass was found by googling "compass map" in images.

A Panda Theory

[[I moved this because I'm dumb and put it in the wrong place. Dar dar dar.]]

Because I know some of you aren't with us in IRC ....

[19:07] <SadPanda> So, while you girls have been having your tea party ...
[19:07] <SadPanda> I've been thinking.
[19:07] <horcruxes> MMMM TEA!
[19:07] <NaxZyrix> I'M NOT A GIRL
[19:07] <SadPanda> These people ... PMs, Op .... whomever.
[19:07] * horcruxes has ADD ;)
[19:07] <horcruxes> I AM!
[19:08] <SadPanda> They are clearly very savy with the computer.
[19:08] * NaxZyrix listesns to panda
[19:08] <SadPanda> And with videos.
[19:08] <NaxZyrix> yeah, they are
[19:08] <SadPanda> ... Why would they use a stock pic as a clue?
[19:08] <SadPanda> They didn't NEED to.
[19:08] <Noava22> because it's an ALTERED stock pic
[19:08] <NaxZyrix> ummm
[19:08] <SadPanda> ... Thanks, Noa. I KNOW that. What I'm saying is ...
[19:09] <SadPanda> Why not make your own pic? Or, rather, why would you google image search a pic?
[19:09] <SadPanda> Why choose now to get lazy? I think it's something more.
[19:09] <morningbelle> easiest ?
[19:09] <horcruxes> because they're too lazy to make a pic?
[19:09] <Noava22> well
[19:09] <Noava22> tachyon was in a hurry...
[19:09] <SadPanda> ... Have they been lazy before?
[19:09] <SadPanda> Does this list look 'lazy' to you?
[19:09] <NaxZyrix> well, i believe they want to direct us to some page
[19:09] <horcruxes> tachyon maybe
[19:09] <romy> it's also the 2nd image when you saearch it. They didn't look too hard for it
[19:09] <SadPanda> S**t, they only coded it three different ways.
[19:10] <NaxZyrix> and Op said puzzles were gonna get harder
[19:10] <NaxZyrix> this doesn't look like it
[19:10] <Noava22> well
[19:10] <morningbelle> this isnt op's puzzle though
[19:10] <Noava22> we havent finished it yet
[19:10] <Noava22> lol
[19:10] <NaxZyrix> (even tho we're as lost as usual)
[19:10] <NaxZyrix> oh yah
[19:10] <romy> I checked a page that also used the stock pic. Lemme find it again
[19:10] <horcruxes> maybe they liked the pic?
[19:10] <NaxZyrix> i keep making that mistake
[19:10] <SadPanda> That's what I'm looking at now.
[19:11] <SadPanda> http://www.cpscalgary.com/
[19:11] <NaxZyrix> is that the only source?
[19:11] <romy> that's it
[19:11] <SadPanda> It's a site about Yachts and Canada.
[19:11] <NaxZyrix> damn
[19:11] <SadPanda> Oh, its the one.
[19:11] <SadPanda> Because the pic looks SPECIFIC to this website.
[19:11] <horcruxes> hm
[19:11] <SadPanda> Look on the 'links' page, there it is.
[19:11] <SadPanda> Just chillin'.
[19:11] <NaxZyrix> yeah
[19:11] <NaxZyrix> ummm
[19:11] <horcruxes> well. what if the N is trying to tell us where the facilities are located?
[19:12] <NaxZyrix> and we know tacky liked to go outside
[19:12] <horcruxes> N of the park/
[19:12] <SadPanda> .... This is where I'm torn.
[19:12] <SadPanda> Where they lazy?
[19:12] <SadPanda> Or is this a clue?
[19:12] * silentraven points out that if it was just a photo then the N wouldn't have been added
[19:12] <NaxZyrix> is the pic to be read for its contents or there's more to it?
[19:12] <SadPanda> I disagree.
[19:12] <SadPanda> They knew we were going to find the orgininal image.
[19:12] <NaxZyrix> yeah
[19:10] <SadPanda> See,
19:14] <SadPanda> I mean, they practically held our hand.
[19:14] <SadPanda> ... Or are they just lazy?
[19:14] <NaxZyrix> compass-map
[19:14] <SadPanda> They haven't been lazy yet.
[19:14] <NaxZyrix> imma image google that
[19:14] <shifty_J> I first thought the map the compass is on was important, till I saw the stock photo.
[19:14] <Alexis> hold on,... i think its only called compas-map on this web page
[19:14] <shifty_J> I did already max, that's how I found it.
[19:15] <NaxZyrix> yeah shifty
[19:15] <NaxZyrix> BUT
[[19:15] <NaxZyrix> searching you can see MANY stock photos of compasses
[19:15] <morningbelle> be good kids
[19:15] * silentraven points out that it is a stock photo and couldn't be pointed in another direction so the N is most likely the actual direction of travel

[Edited because I have a dirty mouth and everyone is verrry goofy right now!]

Maybe finding the clue wasn't going to be hard, ...but solving it would be the hard part.

Yup.

I subtracted the image from OpAphid/Tachyon from the original stock image. OpAphid/Tachyon changed the size of the image by a couple pixels to make it harder to match and I think they changed the jpeg image quality which induces noise.

Image

Looks like there isn't anything else added to the image except the __ _ in the lower right hand corner that we've seen highlighted before.

I have a question regarding http://www.cpscalgary.com/. Does anyone know if this is a "real" site? The reason I ask is that usually Canadian websites end with .ca. Also, the site is designed by "bluefire dezign". If you click on the link the design company does not exist.

Also, wasn't one of the maps on Lucy's computer of an area in Canada?

We should stop searching the picture for hidden clues. OpA has basically said that the only thing of value there is the directional clues, related here:

1. The needle on the compass points roughly NNE
2. The possible morse code N in the bottom right hand corner
3. The size of the picture is 225x225 pixels, which is also the degree measurement for NNE.

This is the message I got from OpA today on the subject (screencap's not working for me, sorry):

Sent: October 30, 2006, 05:32 PM
Subject: Does the compass point the way?

Message:
Why is it that you folks in the chat tend to spend vast amounts of time overanalyzing things that could be taken to have a very simple meaning?

We spent some time with it before realizing it could very well be a hint for the people she originally intended to retrieve her package.

I was just wondering if that picture had any special significance to you or your associates. Clearly, the fact that Tachyon took it means something, but sometimes, an image is nothing more than the thing it represents. Are you concerned that Tachyon possessed this particular image?

The website looks pretty legit to me and not all sites end in .ca. It's actually more complicated to get .ca because you have to prove you are a canadian based business first. Most people don't bother.

However, if anything happens in downtown Toronto, I'm there.

I just went on Google Earth as per request of the IRC to look for locations. There is a Greyhound Bus terminal NNE of the Park. Probably only 2 miles by foot. This might be the place Tachyon was heading to, to "go home".

Should someone go check out the Greyhound at 1715 N Cahuenga Blvd? I would but I'm on the east coast. :)
