Not necessarily. The other day was Father's Day, and she has issues with her dad, so it may have just been another opportunity for characterization.

If you think about it, how many times have Daniel's parents been mentioned (and usually only to give insight into reasons for his behavior)? There doesn't have to be any subtext or foreshadowing involved here.
