Chris is definitely a friend, but as you can see they hunt down friends, question them, then do whatever the hell they want to them.

Oh, maybe the hogs had found the starshine blog and read about E leaving the keys near the comb, and decided to "notify all units" to go recover the keys. So it wasn't about the new hiding place of the "paperwork" at all, although I thought they were talking about it given all the mentions of the relocation around the same time. Confusing? Hell yea.
