Wicked: The Movie?

Post by thelogicpuzzler »

Okay, I must vent. It is said that the musical Wicked is being turned into a movie! It can't happen! Rent was made into a movie, and it ended up so watered down, it wasn't Rent anymore. You don't have to like Wicked, or musicals for that matter, but I needed somewhere to voice my dislike for wonderful musicals being turned into horrid movies.

They always turn everything into a movie. And 99% of the time they ruin it.
That was the weirdest display of geekdom that I have ever seen in my entire life.

You guys do know it was a book before it was a musical right?

We shall nonetheless move forward to carve a name for ourselves in the annals of bold insurgency and death-defying derring-do. Once I have a keen blade at my hip and the Jolly Roger is flapping high above me, I believe I will find my true calling.

I am aware it was a book before it was a musical. Movies tend to ruin the aspect and rush you get from being in the house verses on your couch. Plus, it is usually different because onstage, you can't escape the audience, in a movie, you can reshoot a scene. Plus, movies you can double a character, on stage, you need every physical training you can get. It calls for a lot more talent (opinionated response). Same with voice- overs.

I hated Rent.

But that's beside the point. Wicked is pretty cool.

West Side Story was an awesome movie. In fact, the lyrics were more politically pointed than those for the stage version had been.

Sure, some musicals get ruined in the transition to film, but some don't. Even if Wicked turns out to be a lousy movie, the stage version will still exist.

Some musicals make good films. Don't give up all hope, yet!

West Side Story is probably one of my favorite musicals.
