gjtko presents "What I Think Of..." Episode 5

Post by gjtko2007 »

Today's topic: "About the Gun" video

My, lots of interesting stuff to talk about in this video. :)

First off, Jonas regretting his gun play (not surprising really) and getting hit by Bree for it (you see Jonas's face after Bree says "And it better have running water!". That's funny!)

Secondly, did Jonas really disown his aunt, at least personally? :?:

And Daniel's drinking again (tsk, tsk)... not a good sign I tell you! [-X

While cleaning out the bunker/ex-resistance safehouse (more silliness with Bree and Daniel) that they will be in for a while, they come across some pretty interesting stuff: a map of some kind, picture slides (of Europe apparently), and... a whiteboard marked up with various things related to the Order (whatever it is).

For convience, here's a picture of the board taken from another thread (thanks to ShatteredGlass for the pic! :)):

As has been discussed on What's on the board? there is a lot of interesting stuff to pick out. Let's start with what's at the top.

The top shows that the Order (with the Hymn of One apparently just another name for it) is somehow related to Alistair (spelled it right?) Crowley, which isn't very surprising considering that a link has been implied since the early days.

Going down we see the Elders (with a "Dendarah?" in parenthesis next to it; possibly because they are the ones that actually use the "Order of Dendarah" title, which would explain why Bree denied being "Order of Dendarah" once, as she thought her religion was Hymn of One, not "Order of Dendarah".) with some numbers in question marks below it.

The numbers (9, 12 and 18 ) I think either refer to:
A. Number of Elders at any one time (not likely)
or B. The ages that Hymn of One girls such as Bree are determined or checked to be fit for "the Ceremony" (more likely).

Coming off of the Elders are apparent subdivisions of the Order/Hymn of One: Deacons, Helpers, Watchers and something called "OTS". The former three have dotted lines connecting them to Elders while "OTS" has a solid line (possibly indicating certainty of connection, as opposed to less sure for the other three) Let's take them one at a time:

Deacons: Under are Community Leaders, Zealots and DO THEY know? The first two are pretty self-explanatory (local leaders within the Order and generally impassioned followers, I think Bree's mom may have been one or in line to be one  :) ), but the third one is mysterious. I'll come back to it later.

Helper: Under it is something that looks like nursemaid. Not surprising considering that when Lucy was Bree's helper, she had to follow a strict diet, get injections, etc., so maybe a helper keeps the girl chosen for the Ceremony on the diet, helps her deal with the iron pills, stuff like that.

Watcher: Under it is "protector". This may indicate the Watchers truly are a part of the Order, but that what we had assumed is not the full story, that they just protecting Bree... but from what? :?: That, my friends is the mystery! :)

"OTS": This one is interesting. They aren't Watchers that much we know, but what are they? They also seem to have been the ones that captured BDJ in Vegas.

Going off from the Watchers is Ceremony surrounded by question marks. It seems to me that the implication is that the Watchers are guarding the potential girls chosen for the Ceremony (for what purpose though we have no idea).

Above Ceremony and below Crowley is some circled stuff: Girls? (probably indicating that only girls are right for some reason), Blood underlined many times (it has already been guessed that the Ceremony involves blood in some way, but this is something of proof of that) and then Something in it? (what would be desired in the blood... red blood cells? Does anyone else besides me think of vampires when you read this?!? :?: :!: )

In the bottom left is a dashed circle indicating "the Flock" (ordinary followers of Hymn of One, as indicated by Religious Members below it). Also in there we have they don't know anything :!: (kinda what Bree meant in Denying My Religion when she said anything the Order didn't want the public to see was done to the side) and a couple of names (Cassandra, Alexandra, etc.) which some have said were meant Cassie and Alex were alternate candidates. The theory is weird, but not impossible.

OK, by now you're probably asking "What are you trying to get at?" Well, I think the do they know comment under the deacons and "OTS" may support the two-factions theory.

Here, OTS represents part of an extremist or deviant branch of the Order which is far less willing to follow the doctrine of "free will" than the main part of the Order. When Bree ran off, the moderate branch sent the Watchers to make sure she didn't fall into extremist hands (like what happened in Vegas) while trying to recover her themselves via OpAphid. After BDJ escaped from the extremist's compound, a Watcher intervened to protect BDJ from extremist recapture.

Alex may also have been caught between the free-will moderates and the compulsion extremists. She tried to escape their conflicting demands on her but surrendered to avoid further trouble and release Bree from her obligation. Whether that is true or not is still up in the air, but it makes sense for it to have worked that way.

OK, I know, long and rambling, but I think it's a pretty good theory overall. Boy, it's quite the complex web that has lead Bree to be sleeping in a bunker, huh? :)

Well, uh, what do you think? :)

Hate to say this, but . . .

Could you move this discussion to the "About the Gun" thread in the Videos section? 8-[

We were just talking at some length about how hard it is to have multiple discussions of the same topics in different places on the board. One suggestion I made, which got some positive response, was to ask people to make their points in already-existing discussions. And very soon thereafter, you started this thread. So you're my guinea pig.

Sorry.

Point taken. I intended this kind of thing to be something like a newspaper opinion column or even "blog-ish", but if you think that I should be talking on the other topics rather than making my own than I'll do that instead. (Copies and pastes theory into "About the Gun" thread) :)

GJTKO, I neglected to thank you appropriately for your very classy response to my request. I know you were hoping to start a blog-ish column, and I'm sorry that you're disappointed in that hope. I hope you got enough responses to your post to assuage any disappointment.

Ages of the girls

Post by pks2141 »

Remember the dirt and dust? This place has been abandoned for sometime. If those are the ages, it may have been sometime in the past. I would look at the age differences vs the actual ages. What is the difference in age from Alex to Bree? 8 or 9 years? Then it fits. 9 and 18.

pks and nowherepixie, if you'd like to participate in the conversation about the vid, could you please join us in the appropriate thread in the "Videos" section? We're trying to consolidate all conversations about the vids in one place. Thanks!

Bree's 17. We know Alex is older than 26 (she said she was 26 when she took her last photograph, and it was implied that it had been a while back), so that wouldn't work.
