i think the happiness is due to the fact that he got out of the house + the fact that he seems interested in jonas's aunt. he does seem a bit out of it though. i doubt it's due to drinking, he just doesnt seem drunk to me.

i can see how he can be still brainwashed but he hasn't done anything THAT out of ordinary after he returned so i dunno. has anyone has seen the movie the curse of the jade scorpion(i think thats the title, its with woody allen)? pretty much the main character is hypnotised by a "magician" at a party, then he wakes up and doesnt remeber anything. he goes home and gets a phone call from the guy who hypnotised him, he says one word which automatically puts him into a trance(trigger word, as many of you mentioned),and gives him instructions on how to steal some jewels. the guy does everything he is told, goes to sleep wakes up and doesnt remeber anything. the same thing could be happening with DB.

I've noticed that Daniel isn't exercising the same caution as he was before, and not blindly doing what Bree wants all the time like he used to. Is this just getting over Bree, or a sudden personality change? Or am I just imagining things that aren't there?

I think the spell's been broken. Bree's spell, that is.

I personally think he's finally thinking straight - not weighing romantic hopes with her in every decision - and on his own terms.
