Nancy Drew films: For LG15 and Tachyon Fans.

Post by Sheikh Gomelez »

I was unable to find any references to this on the Forum, so I thought I'd mention it here:

Stateside fans of the Tachyon and LG15 might want to program their TiVos, DVRs, or VCRs. Turner Classic Movies will be showing four classic Nancy Drew films as part of this month's "Watching the Detectives" programming. The movies will air on March 15th, starting at 1 AM EST.

http://www.tcm.com/thismonth/article.js ... eId=154968

EDIT: The articles state that the films are airing on March 14th, but if you look at the schedule, it's pretty clear that they're going to be broadcast on the morning of the 15th.

And for those not aware (I *thought* I saw this posted, but can't find it) there's also a new Nancy Drew movie due out on 15 June 2007. IMDB entry is here.

What can I say? I was at the movies seeing something else (I can't remember what, now), and they showed the preview. My wife immediately knew what it was for, and started picking on me for buying Nancy Drew's Guide to Life

You should check out the rest of the "Watching the Detectives" schedule.

Some great films.

If you haven't seen The Sniper, you really should...

/me only has basic cable, with his own home-built DVR. (I can't believe I've nearly filled a 250Gig drive from only having basic cable and dual-tuners!?!?!)

Oh... It's available... Just not part of the basic package. I don't think there's enough that I'd have my DVR watch for me to justify the cost of the next package or two up.

I had to pay extra to get TCM, but it's totally worth it. Sometimes it's the only channel I watch for days at a time.

Hate to tell y'all, though -- those old Nancy Drew movies totally suck. :smt012 They turn Nancy into a ditzy wuss who keeps having to get rescued by Ned Nickerson. I was really, really disappointed. So be forewarned.

You don't find that sort of thing amusing?

When I was a kid, I read the Nancy Drew books, but they didn't do much for me. I was more interested in Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Father Brown, Gideon Fell. Later I got into the Black Mask school of writing... and the adventures of Jules de Grandin.

The differences between the Nancy Drew books and movies didn't bother me, but I can see how fans of the series might be irritated by the films' depiction of the characters.

I think the movies are entertaining enough for what they are.
