yeah...I've seen my first "real" boyfriend a time or two over the past several years. i remember how heart broken i was when we broke up in 11th grade (ok im 32 now). it was weird to see him and we talked the couple of times we've seen each other but the conversation was weird...yea how are your parents blah blah blah. i dont consider him the one that got away.

lester ~ this is a very interesting thread and I have tried to think of someone i can honestly say "got' away but cannot come up with anyone.

I dunno about one that got away...but I have one that I wonder "what if" about. He's still a friend of mine. He works where my husband works, now, too. We were good friends and never more, but I had a little crush on him...but we were such good friends and I knew that if we went out, our circle of friends would change and our friendship would, too. I didn't want to be the Yoko. So, never said a word. I still wonder, though...just not enough to wreck my marriage.

I see my high school sweetheart ALL the time. I actually like him better as a person now than what I thought of him for a long time after we broke up. I just don't see where I was attracted tohim , at all...and I was so infatuated with him back then. We're friendly and talk, etc...but ...no, just...no, haha.

Oh, guess I never answered the original question. Everyone I've been involved with were the one that got away. :P

I suppose that when you've had the one who got away, the one can't be said to have gotten away...

oooh I hate threads like this... the ones that make you think about the past. People, move on ^_^ Where you are in life right now is where you are supposed to be...You took yourself there.

Like you've read me say before: Forget about the people from your past, there's a reason they never made it to your future.

If you had 'the one that got away'---you are admitting that you would rather be with them than the one you are with now--you are showing your discontent.

Love your life..its yours. Change it if you aren't happy. ^_^

I don't think anyone in this thead didn't acknowledge that they like where they are, now. But, reflecting back on things can be fun...you think about stuff you thought you'd forgotten. That doesn't mean you are longing for them or would rather go back and change things.

True..but when I hear people longing and sighing about the one-that-got-away...just the term itself means that they 'lost' something. Just because you lose doesn't mean you lost something in life...you're where you are for a reason--who knows where life would have taken you if you hadn't 'let them get away'. Just by saying those words, you are admitting that you basically lost someone special..I think the term should be deleted from all languages and replaced with just acknowledging that you miss someone and wish things ended up on better terms, plain and simple...nothing admitting another longing/desire for another person other than whom you are currently with.

See, I don't regret how things in my life have gone for a second. And I tell my students that every experience they have is important because they learn from it. There are some instances where the outcome isn't exactly what I hoped for, but I wouldn't be the person I am today, or have the life I have, if I hadn't gone down certain paths. Its interesting to look back and wonder, but I don't dwell on things for a second. Everyone in my life has influenced it, be it for good or bad, and they are all important in their own ways.
It's official!! I'm getting married September 28, 2007!!

He's got a snake skin sportshirt,
And he looks like Vincent Price
With a little piece of chicken,
And he's carving off a slice.
But someone tipped her off,
She'll be doing a Houdini now any day.
She shook his hustle,
And a Greyhound bus'll
Take the one that got away.

I think this thread, even though we are 'looking back'...I think some are also regretting their past. Which is also something I don't do.
