The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans are suffering from some form of mental illness. Think of your three best friends. If they're okay, then it's you.

Is the better question: Do I like shakespeare? And if so, would the answer "Hell yes, I am a theatre nerd" suffice?

Could the obsession be Star Wars by chance?

Hm.
I think a nerd is someone who is just so into whatever it is they are into that they have little time to go with the flow. They typically like brainy things and don't care about stuff like fashion or popularity. They are almost "above" everyone. Teasing mostly rolls off their shoulders because they truly don't care anymore. And good for them. One thing about a nerd is that they are always themselves. Often excels in life, outshining their peers at 20 year high school reunion. Perfect movie Nerd role model: Brian Johnson (The Breakfast Club)

A geek is this complete opposite of a nerd. Someone who is a social outcast. Who tries to wear the craziest outfit trend just to fit in and fails to pull it off. They are interested in pleasing everyone else and are very out of tune with their own pride and self respect. Often picked on and reduced to tears in school, often mildly disrespected later in life by their children and peers. Perfect movie Geek role model: George McFly (Back To The Future)

there. I said it.
