Jamesy, here in America, there is so much hoopla over "sexual harrassment," that most co-workers have to sign documents stating that they will not date each other. It's company policy. You are lucky you can actually be open and ask about it.

Two of my friends got fired once for having sex on the conference room table.

Jamesyboy.. Do you have a plan in place in case you have to "walk the plank?" Do you have "shark protection?" Will you be wearing a life jacket?

Are there other job prospects.. in other words?

It's definitely fine to work on the same team as your partner, just not to directly manage them. So, if worst came to worst, I'd just have to curtail my period of temporary promotion, or Sarah would have to move teams to get away from me!!!
