Learning new words...

Post by HazelButtercup »

The "meep" thread made me think about the new words I've been learning since I started reading message boards. There's a lot of Internet vernacular, but also regional terms I’ve just started to notice like “hella.”
(“Hella”: A multi-purpose word invented by people in Northern California. Commonly used in place of “really” or “very”.)

What are some word/phrases that you've learned only recently or some terms you use only in your area?

In Cincinnati we often say "Please?" when we want someone to repeat something, instead of "Excuse me?" or "Pardon?" or the like. I never got into it much myself, but I hear it all the time.

In my parent's country (Czech Republic), they use their word for "please" the same way. They also say it when they answer the phone!

I don't think there are any words that are exclusive to my area...there's kind of an accent though. It's like surfer/stoner sounding... or valley girl-ish, but it's not really strong. (just strong enough for others to make fun of me for becuase it comes out when I'm drunk) Like I say betch instead of bitch and wuh-it instead of what and addiat instead of idiot..if that makes sense.
Me and my key...same as it ever was.

When I'm bass fishing (aka: drunk), I tend to fit 'mother scrunch' into just about every other sentence, any way it will fit. I've no idea why.

I like to say whoopdeefrick, as in-

"Nobody gives a whoopdeefrick."

or

"Ya, he totally got whoopdeefricked."
