The Op in Aphid, Mr. Bree, and that slimeball Jonas
IMHO:
Aphid is both a title and a job description. Op is an abbreviation for opus, meaning a work of art - something made. This is the Order's term for one of their genetically-engineered, mentally-customized servants. The process of creating an opus can fail for several reasons and in several different ways, but sometimes the results can remain functional enough to be useful for such things as raising other potential ops, acting as an agent, or even working in the laboratories.
Mr. Bree was one such. However, in the course of his work in genetic engineering, he discovered what he was. There's his "midlife crisis".
Jonas is another. Personally, I suspect that he simply didn't have enough functional brain cells to support a spare personality. The Order kept him on the payroll, and decided to use him to keep an eye on Bree. His whole house is wired, and the control center is in his parents' room.
The Order still has a lot of work to do on their methods, obviously. Of the five potential ops we know about, only one was actually successful.

Jonas:"I love you, pole. *kiss*"
Bree: *scientist voice*"Whoa, what is that?...*normal* That was strange."
Daniel: (wearing the sombrero and in a loud, high pitched voice) "Ah, ha ha ha ha ha ha haaa."
Best. Episode. EVER.

Oh yeah. I'm that girl on FOB Life who Rafine said that Reza, Jackson, and Yousef all wanted to screw when I called in.

It seems like more topics are turning up that contain misguided theories on role of OpAphid/Tach/Brother because the storylines are merging and people who haven't been aware of/following the ARG are being caught unawares.
Any of the OpA people feel like posting a "OpAphid for Dummies" synopsis on the main board for the regular people? The summary on the OpA board is a little too obscure to casual users.

Only this is: How to separate fact from theory. Many would post consensus theories as if they were facts. If somebody would like to make this thread, be sure and give a brief description on how any facts were proven. Anything that isn't absolutely proven is a theory, or rather, a hypothesis. Proven = Demonstrated as proven in some fashion within an Op, Tachy, Brother, or Cassie video.

trainer: It's an excellant, comprehensive, and unbiased list for people who already know what's going on with the story, but really doesn't provide any background on what OpAphid.
I was thinking something along the lines of a Sticky topic that gives a general overview of OpAphid for the uninitiated, and *how* and *why* we know what we know about them (in simple terms).
For example, to explain that OpA is an alternate reality game, and how an alternate reality game works, and why we know what we know. It seems like the uninformed are usually unawared of just how detailed it is (even when they watch the videos, because superficially they don't say much), and are usually like, "Well that's NEVER been confirmed. How the hell do YOU know??"
I'd do it, but I don't play the ARG...

Everything you just listed is already in the OpA section of the forum here: http://lonelygirl15.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3123
here: http://lonelygirl15.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4105
and here:http://lonelygirl15.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3276
They're quite extensive, so it would be somewhat silly to reproduce them here. If you want to know about the ARG, just go look at our section of the forum. We're really quite organized. The LGpedia is also a pretty good source, though I prefer the summary threads in OpA forum, personally.
Edited to add: Since things are divided up into individual puzzles and story arcs, try searching for the tags we give to threads, like "summary" or "puzzle." "Recap" is also a good one. The first posts of these thread tend to be kept up to date.
Sorry I edit my posts so much. I wish the board wouldn't leave evidence of my neuroticism...

Quite right, they are extensive, and I imagine very useful for those who are jumping in to play/are playing the ARG. What I was suggesting, again, was something less obscure--a paraphrase of what you've posted--for those who aren't playing, and don't plan on playing, the ARG. I think I will post a paraphrase of those links titled "OpAphid for Dummies" or something of the ilk, and if the mods like it the can make it sticky. Or something.
And as an OpHead, I try to swing through, as does KTS and make sure that the facts up here match what we have down in the Op section...I'll try to be a little more on the ball about it, but my computers been acting up lately, so its hard to stay on top of things.
It's official!! I'm getting married September 28, 2007!!
