Hey, I know...how 'bout anyone that wants to go there, does and anyone who wants to come here..well, you do that. Hazing and ranking, I'm sure, are going to happen regardless of how many nice people are willing to welcome others. If it's so terrible, then just rip someone's face off or leave. That's what I do. This whole us against them little war is weird and stupid...on both sides.
Me and my key...same as it ever was.

This is the kind of thing that people are complaining about. Why would you call someone a turd when they post a serious and well-written post (and go way out of their way to make sure their jokes are noted as jokes and inoffensive (except to donkeys))?iamcool wrote:i used to go in a lot but when turds like u started going in then i stopped going
Unfortunately, we're all guilty of making snap judgements. I haven't been in the IRC chat, but I bet there are some not-nice people there, just like there are some in the forum. Sometimes those people ruin it for everyone else...
I say we give everyone a chance and refrain from the name calling!

I'd rather folks just leave and not rip anyone's face off, but otherwise, well said!spaciegirlreturn wrote:Hey, I know...how 'bout anyone that wants to go there, does and anyone who wants to come here..well, you do that. I just want to come play the game and help solve the puzzles. I don't want to have to earn "cool" status. I don't have a boyfriend who will write me a beer bot like 'pill.
Coming on to this board lately is like stepping into an alternate universe. Where, in the real world, when entering a new situation where there is an established group of people, is anyone ever given overwhelming acceptance and welcoming, hugs and kisses and a parade in their honor? Have some of you never met new people, joined a new team, started a new school, started a new job, or lived in the world that the rest of us real people live in?
The IRC chat is a group of people. They congregate there out of a similar interest in OpA. Friendships have developed, as would happen in any other group of people gathered with a similar interest. Your hazing comment is completely untrue and "pretty ridiculous". I've read many many hours of transcripts from the chat, and there is no hazing LOL. Knowledge is respected in the IRC chat. Doing your homework and not clogging the chat with questions that can be answered on your own by reading the forums is a must. And, just like in ANY situation in life, personality, sense of humor, wit and intelligence makes a person sociable in the IRC chat. I wish I had the time to spend in there -- a lot of clever and talented players frequent that chat. I will say that it seems like every time I do get there I see a bunch of new screen names. New players are joining in the chat all of the time... I guess they sat in front of their webcams with their underwear on their heads while they smacked their own butts with paddles longer than you did

Maybe it's time to step away from the computer and get some real life experience.
And the above comment regarding Pill is, and there is no other word for it, just plain ignorant.

I'd just like to make a statement.
I appreciate someone coming in an saying everyone is allowed in the IRC. I respect that. I enjoy knowing that.
I've just never felt welcome there. I suppose because the only time I want to go in is when its time to be in-character, and play with the puzzles. At that time, i play tachyon's side.
Also i've recieved a lot of comments from IRC members saying that i'm the one that start the most flame wars on here...I cause the drama...the only reason i'm around is to cause drama. And what upsetting the most, is that its only IRC members that say that to me...no one else.
So less welcoming environment.
Although I would love to join in the chat sometime. I would like to have that known. I would love to join the IRC chat someday, and not feel like a black sheep.
I like a lot of you guys, and a lot of you guys are smart and I think I could get along with amazingly. I jsut don't feel welcomed.
But I'm happy you made a post because I know i'm not alone in feeling unwelcomed, but others think its because it's some elite club that you need to be accepted into. Which I know its not!! I jsut know some people feel that way.

I just wanted to mention one thing.Killthesmiley wrote:i play tachyon's side.
I don't know where you get the idea that being on Tachyon vs. OpAphid's side means anything in the IRC. When it comes to puzzles, people just work together. It doesn't matter that the channel's name is #operationaphid. We have #tachyon as well, though it's only used for chatter when there's a puzzle (or, in the case of having multiple puzzles to work on, one puzzle in each room). I know several of us don't have a side, some side with Op, some with Tach and some manage to play on both teams.
So, sides don't matter in chat.
That is all.
"in-character"? "i play tachyon's side"? Maybe that's your problem. You act like this is a game.Killthesmiley wrote:I've just never felt welcome there. Hokay, everyone.
I've not been a part of this game for very long. I came in somewhere toward the middle, lurked the forums for awhile getting caught up, and then finally decided to have a voice ingame sometime late November / early December (I don't really remember when).
I have to say, trying to get through everything in the forums is tough. There's so much, and it's everywhere. The Mods do their best to keep things organized and in line, but sometimes all I need is a cut and dry, Cliff's Notes version of things to catch me up quickly, and in a drama free way.
I've seen a lot of trashtalk on the forums. There have been a lot of flamewars that are ongoing, and that threadjack. It's obnoxious to try to find anything, because I always tend to find something hateful and silly posted where it shouldn't be.
That said, the one place I feel comfortable with this game, and the one place I feel welcome and accepted is in the IRC. I'm a relatively shy girl. I'm not aggressive, I'm not overly sweet, I'm not loud. I'm not even really that talkative, believe it or not. But they took me in. No hazing, no flaming. They caught me up on things I'd missed in the game quickly and efficiently and without making me feel like a noob.
So, to say that not everyone is welcome is untrue. Because it's been my experience, being a new person coming into it and watching new people come into it, that everyone is welcome right off the bat. Now, I can understand if people come in and start acting in a way that offends everyone or directly breaks the rules, that there will be a little less welcome there. But that's the case in any situation, be it LG15 chat (which, though I've never felt unwelcome in, I don't feel terribly comfortable in because I am so quiet) or even on the forums.
Calling people turds isn't the most responsible way to handle this situation, and which side you choose does not affect the way the people in IRC treat you.
The end.

Please name the days. I've never seen you on IRC. I have logs since mid-October so I will check them and see if you actually came on.iamcool wrote:i used to go in a lot but when turds like u started going in then i stopped going
I think you're mistaking IRC for the LG15 on-site chatroom.
Oh, and this thread is now officially IRC vs. Forums again. Ready go!
Starting topic: People who wear red clothing aren't welcome in IRC

What about red panties?
