Guillotine Calamity -- "D In Aphid"

Post by Sad Panda »

As GC's biggest fan, I really wanted to hear everyone's opinions about her new vid and the code contained there in.

The most interesting thing to me is the code. When translated into hex, it gives you a url link to this wikki site:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helena_Petrovna_Blavatsky

(PS, don't ask me how, the boys in #OperationAphid figured it out. I suck at code.)

Here's a piece of that article:
Madame Blavatsky claimed that all religions were both true in their inner teachings and false or imperfect in their external conventional manifestations. Imperfect men attempting to translate the divine knowledge had corrupted it in the translation. Her claim that esoteric spiritual knowledge is consistent with new science may be considered to be the first instance of what is now called New Age thinking.

Sounds framiliar, no?

Also, it lists good ol' Alister Crowley as an influence of hers.

So, what do you guys think? Do you think it's possible The Order has connections to Theosophy? Or is that just GC's take on the whole thing?

BTW, Theosophy can be read about here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Theosophy

What do you guys think?

I think it's a very well done code scheme. The numbers are bagged like 4 or 5 times to get the tinyurl. The videos are also well done. As far as madame Blavatsky goes, it's an interesting tie in. I'd be interested in seeing where it's going. Thus far, I don't think there's quite enough to go on.

Michael

Edit: I think that it's just GC's take on it. I don't think that The Order is a real religion, persay, as it seems to have borrowed from a number of different religions in it's makeup. As I said, though, I think we're just going to have to wait and see. I'm starting to like GC, and I hope she doesn't paint herself into a corner.

Hi.

HPB has already put in an appearance, though I can't for the life of me remember where! Blavatsky herself, especially in her earlier book Isis Unveiled, was more dependent on the earlier work of Godfrey Higgins than on AC. Higgins' basic premise, elaborated in his humongous work, Anacalypsis, was that all the religions of the ancient work derived from a single original universal creed.

HPB was born at Ekaterinoslav on the Dnieper R. in the Ukraine, where my grandfather lived before coming to the US.

The Theosophical Society has branches all over the world and is much less magickally oriented than the Crowley organizations. They are, as far as I can tell, basically advocates of what the early Theosophists called Esoteric Buddhism and their basic tenets involve reincarnation and evolution of worlds, common Buddhist and Hindu fare. The last TS meeting I went to was a round table discussion of Hitler's belief in the Spear of Longinus, one of the four peripheral elements in Xtianity that approximate to the Tarot suits.

Where are they going with this? I don't know. The Theosophists are a pretty milktoast group of folks and I can't see them supporting any king of "Order." But the line that this GuillotineCalamity is fanfic is starting to rub a little thin.

Well, The TS is a real religion, with an extensive literature, though its heyday was in the early 20th Century. If you are near any big city, you can most likely find a local group. They are certainly realer than the Crowley organizations.

What I find particularly interesting are the ties to the Order of the Temple of the Rosy Cross (Rosicrucians). We had a long conversation about their influences on the LG15 storyline up in the Illuminati thread. Ah, the good old days, Lord Balto.. remember those?
Also, how they've been linked to Serapis Bey who is identified by Theosophists with the god Serapis (where have we heard that name before? )
It's ALL connected...

Aye Captain.

The trouble here is you throw out enough "clues" and the psychological phenomenon of "closure" sets in. Your brain starts filling in the missing bits, whether they are there or not.

Ah, but that is the fun part. Seeing where other forum members can take the ideas we develop. Do they fit the plot or not? It's intended to encourage thoughtful inspection of the LG plotline, its hints and clues. Not necessarily the answers to life's mysteries.

At first I thought a deep historical perspective would be enlightening, but as things progressed it became clearer to me that the answers lie in the pop-culture references (just ask Oppy or Tachyon). Maybe that’s not as accurate from a rational perspective but I decided it’s better (and more fun) to play along.
