'''Marla:'''Thanks every body, for making the video. You did a really good job. I'm glad every body pulled together. ''(Marla shrugs)'' I don't know what to do next! I don't really know how long to wait before I track down doctor Arscott?...Or Mr. Arscott? Whatever he's called, and, uh, I dunno, waltz into his office and tell him to watch a YouTube video? "Hey Mr. Arscott, I am a random person. From the Interweb. You should watch this video! Right now!" ''(Marla gets up and grabs an action figure of Jesus, which says "John" several times.)'' So, Dr. Arscott...Hows it going? ''(As Mean Dr. Arscott)'' Who are you and what are you doing in my office?!
Mr. Arscott, I just really think you should watch this. (Continuing “mean Dr. Arscott”) It’s Doctor Arscott. (Marla looks slightly sheepish) I’m really making Dr Arscott sound real mean. (Marla tries a different way) Um… Hi Dr. Arscott, how you doing? (As overly nice Dr. Arscott, with something of a southern accent) Ah well, I’m fine. How are you? (Marla makes a face, as if unsure how to react) Uh, I guess I’m ok. There’s this video you should see on youtube. It’s for you from some people who might be interested in hearing from. (overly nice Arscott) Oh well, I’ll take a look. It should be good. (Marla looks uneasy.) Alright, I’m just gonna go now…(Marla chuckles, cut to Marla closer to the camera, having put the Jesus figure down for now.)

Lime Penguin thanks for your video. You don’t sound like an asshole, you were just venting. You know how it is, but you better be careful what you say about me because if you say bad things Jesus is going to smote you. I mean your sick, but I’m just saying. It’s a sign, from God. (Marla brings a penguin drawing on a popscicle stick into camera view.) Hey there I’m Lime Penguin, nononononononononononono…no….no…no. (number of no’s may not be accurate) I’m feeling good. (Marla starts bringing Jesus, facing the camera sideways into view) I’m ranting a little. You know, you know how things go, ranting at the camera. (Jesus is brought out of view) I’m not suspecting anything at all. (Marla brings the Jesus figure back into the picture suddenly and starts hitting the paper penguin. After several silent hits there come sound effects and smiting.) Kapow (hit) sickness (hit) children (hit) errold (?) (hit) smote (hit). (Cut to Marla further back slightly blurry, Jesus in the penguin in the foreground, using the super nice Arscott voice.) I know what you did I just can’t say it ‘cause I’m Jesus. (Marla starts to laugh and brings both Jesus and the Penguin out of view. Cut to Marla close to the camera.) Jesus is coming for you. (Cut to Marla back against the couch, slightly blurred again. Slowly Jesus is brought back into the shot, in focus, from the bottom of the screen. Whispered CiW style) I was here.
Dear Professor Arscott,

I represent the community which is dedicated to finding out the answers behind Maddison Atkins and Adam Wilmott’s tragic death. We’re also very dedicated in helping your student Clara Stokes, finish her thesis project so that she can graduate.

Many of us have gotten very close to Maddison, and are also very close to Clara, and we’d like to help them both out. We are a tight knit community and we are very set on helping your student find out more about our friend.

By soliciting Clara Stokes to take on this tragedy as her thesis project, it is understood that you are aware of the questions and the possible emotional and physical ramifications of this project. Our recent attempts at uncovering information about the deaths of Maddison and Adam have not been as productive as we would have liked.

We decided to contact you, the advisor. My question for you is how were you connected to Maddison? How did you know her? And, how did the death of Maddison affect you and the Nacogdoches community? Any information that you have would be helpful. I would like to thank you in advance for your time. An email address will be provided in the video description so that you can write back to us, or make your own video if you would like.

If you can, help.

(Several people were shown also saying “if you can, help”. Full list of contributors is pending.)
(Marla is sitting on the couch again)
Uh Mr. Atkins, I’m sorry I don’t really have a clear thought in my head so I’m just gonna talk. Like UniqueBlaze, that’s his screen name, um… like him, I don’t really have children. And by not really I mean (laughs) really don’t. I sort of have a child (mutters, still laughing) shit. So, I can’t really relate to what you’re going through. But, I can a little bit, and not to be a downer, but I think I can relate because my dad died. He passed about three years ago. I can imagine that Maddison might have felt some sort of loss when you didn’t support her move to Nacogdoches. I don’t really know anything about the situation, or what went down so, I’m not judging anybody for it. I think you have a pretty good handle on that yourself.

After dad died I started traveling. He left me some money specifically for that, and even though its almost all gone now I think I used it appropriately. I traveled. I saw England, and France, and Germany, and Holland, and I took a fifty six hour Greyhound trip from Montreal to Calgary. I think I averaged zero showers on that trip. There are no showers on a Greyhound. I didn’t meet anybody that wanted to kiss me. She smells like a monkey. I traveled and uh… before I met Maddison I sort of… I mean I sort of let a boy influence my traveling decisions. I had plans for Japan, and Costa Rica, and Switzerland, and I ended up in Nashville. I don’t really know when or why I let this guy influence me, but I just did.

After April, I was devastated. We all were. However, and I hate to really admit this, but my life didn’t really change. I mean… I mean not really. I still traveled, and I went to Seattle, For the boy. On my first trip to Nac, I stayed about a week, and I was I was brave, and I was strong. I jumped straight into things, and I found Clara at her job, and I went to Maddison’s apartment. I opened up the war nook, and then I read her… and then I went back to Seattle. But when I moved here, it was different. I was different, and I don’t think it’s as important to answer why as it is to know that it just was.

How did I cope with that why? Some may say that I didn’t cope at all. But I think that I coped in the way that I always cope. I played games. I played Tetris, and Mario Kart, and Zelda, and Kingdom Hearts, and Kingdom Hearts II, Guitar Hero, and Guitar Hero II, and Guitar Hero III, and Guitar Hero 80’s, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy XII, and now I have a mild addiction to We Love Katamari. Um… Don’t start playing that game. (Each word separate and measured with emphasis) Perhaps I haven’t dealt with things as efficiently as I could have. I don’t know, where was I going with all of this stuff? Guess I didn’t really have a point.

(Gregory is sitting in a chair in front of a blank white wall, in the new house, holding a letter in his hand)
After April, I just want you to know that I stopped doing a lot of things. I stopped wearing a tie. And, I stopped working overtime. In fact, I stopped working at all. I didn’t leave my house that much either. I have this slot in the door and the mail was just coming through every day, piling up. Advertisements, lots of advertisements, catalogs, buy a brand new SUV, and junk, and condolences. (Long pause, and then change of tact) Ehh… Publisher’s Clearing House, and just a lot of stuff. I did pay my bills. I did do that, because I automatic pay a lot of them, and a lot of bills you can pay in cash so it’s not that big of a deal. So it’s not like I completely went off the deep end. And finally, my mountain of mail got so huge that I thought, um… I’ll just put a box under there. I’m very creative sometimes. And, it’s my front door. I don’t go in my front door. Front door’s for company. I went in the back door all the time. And then the box filled up. I taped it up, moved away to this new place here, and today I decided to open that mystery box of mail. And I found this letter.

It’s from a girl that I’ve only met once, and that was on the phone. Her name is Rachel. And she had an internship out in Los Angeles, Rachel did, and Maddison was going to be a part of that. And this note is a thank you note from Rachel. It’s a pretty standard run of the mill thank you note. It says expressing gratitude for you covering Maddison’s half of the rent and bills. (Gregory gives a tight smile and nods.) Um, she gave me a little update on her life in Los Angeles. She’s a PA, which I’m assuming is something to do in the film world, or television, or something. And she’s got a link here to her video blog on YouTube. And I, you know I was thinking how different it could have been. We wanted Maddison to go to a prestigious school. You know, NYU, Columbia, Bryson. (?) And instead she went to Nacogdoches with that (heavily sarcastic) rock star.

My wife and I did not support that. Tough love, you know? If you’re going to go with Mr. Rock Star, we’re not going to support that. And I really regret that. Cause, I look at Rachel’s life here. (Looks down at pages of the letter) Well, that could have been Maddison, you know? She could have had Rachel’s life, or she could have had a life like Rachel’s. Maddison could have been happy. She could have been a PA. (Laughs) Working out there, and (looks down a pages of the letter again) and now because of tough love. (Cut to Gregory looking at the letter again) Anyway… (Folds letter holds it up slightly) Hey Rachel, if you see this, thank you for sending this, and congratulations. I mean, you’re doing great.

(Cut to black, then the Redearth88 end tag comes up, for the first time in the Maddison Atkins series, and the voice says “Maddison Atkins the universe is wider than our views of it.”)

Marla: Well, for a girl it’s less conventional…

Gregory: Yeah, for a guy its, I don’t know what it is, but anyway… So, it’s… I’m amazed to meet you finally. I appreciate you letting me meet you. So will you tell me about yourself? (In the background Marla seems to quietly saying Well, I mean… but is cut off by the question.)

Marla: Um, yeah, of course. Um, well, like I said, I’m Marla and ah… I’m 23; I was a friend of Maddison's um online that is. I’m from Canada. (Gregory studies Marla, taking in the information she is giving him.) I’m just visiting here for now. I’m... I’m finishing a degree in broadcast journalism like Maddison was. Up in Canada, I’m just taking a year off for now.

Gregory: So, I (struggles briefly for words) How did you meet Maddison?

Marla: Um… Online.

Gregory: You didn’t know her then.

Marla: Well, I mean I did, but not in person. I wasn’t down here or anything. I mean I wish I could have been down here, but… I just knew her from online and the videos that she posted. I tried to help her.

Gregory: But you didn’t go to SFA.

Marla: No, no, no, no.

Gregory: Okay, I’m just trying to get this straight.

Marla: Yeah, I’m sorry; it’s a little bit complicated. Um, I came down from Canada recently. (Gregory nods and says Okay after each statement, still trying to absorb and understand the information) I’m traveling around the states for a year in my year off of school. And um…

Gregory: (Interrupts Marla) Are you rich?

Marla: No, I have a little bit of money set aside to do this kind of stuff (laughs slightly) I wish I were rich. If I were rich I could help a little bit more, but um… yeah, I’m just living the poor student’s life. I swear, and I’m just down here for a little while, and maybe I can help.

Gregory: I’m just curious, why have you come to Nacogdoches?

Marla: Um, I came to Nacogdoches for lots of reasons. I mean I came for lots of personal reasons. I have normal stuff going on that normal stuff that all 23 year olds go through and… I wanted to come to a quiet place to go through it, but I’m here for other reasons too. (Gregory studies Marla thoughtfully while she speaks.) I want to help Clara. I want to help with the documentary. I want to help you. (Not sure of this line as it is cut off by Gregory)

Gregory: What kind of stuff do you have going on? I mean I don’t know what normal 23 year old girl stuff is.

Marla: Just finding myself, finding what I want to do. I mean I … I was in college, and I went through five years of it, and then decided I wasn’t sure anymore and now I’m kind of in this weird… middle stage. I just don’t know what I’m doing anymore. So, uh… I’m doing other stuff.

Gregory: (still trying to understand) Okay, you told me, but tell me again. Its 23 year old stuff you’re going through? What does that mean? Is that like love? (Kind of smiles, and Marla chuckles)

Marla: Um… Love?

Gregory: Because I don’t personally believe in it anymore, much, but… (Marla still laughs slightly)

Marla: I … Um… Yeah, I guess you could say some of its love. (Very quietly) Yeah…

Gregory: Some. Is it love, or not? If it’s none of my business you can also tell me that.

Marla: Well… um… uh… yeah, yes.

Gregory: Its love. (Nods slightly)

Marla: Yes it’s… yeah.

Gregory: Um I may as well be fair with you because you’ve answered really honestly with me. The real reason I wanted to meet you is I want to find out about this documentary, I want to see it done. And I need your help. For Maddison. (not sure of this line, spoken very quietly)

Marla: Yeah. I… I mean of course. I would, I would do anything for Maddison’s memory. Um... and, and I definitely will help with the documentary. I have to admit that I’m concerned about Clara, and um…

Gregory: In what sort of way are you concerned about her?

Marla: Well, I did promise her that I would help finish her degree, and I want for any of this, anything that we do to help with that. I want her to graduate. I think this is a good way to do it still.

Gregory: (nods) That’s nice of you. I mean… I don’t quite understand Clara.

Marla: Um … (uncomfortable sound) Maybe, if I spoke to her I could understand her.

Gregory: Yeah, maybe if you could find her.

Marla: Right

Gregory: Where is she?

Marla: I… She… She’s not answering my phone calls. Um… funny, I went by Chili’s the other day because she used to work there, and they told me that she just doesn’t work there anymore, so… I don’t know.

Gregory: So is she here? (His questioning becomes slowly more irate and impatient, as does his body language.)

Marla: I have no idea. I mean um… I haven’t like knocked on her windows or peeked into her house or anything so I don’t really know, but…

Gregory: Have you asked her friends and stuff if she’s been around?

Marla: I don’t really know anybody; I mean I don’t know her friends.

Gregory: But you know where she lives.

Marla: Well I don’t want to snoop. I don’t want to…

Gregory: (interrupts Marla) that was not a yes or no. I mean, do you know where she lives?

Marla: (quietly) Yes, I know where she lives.

Gregory: So you could look in her window or rap on her door if you wanted to.

Marla: Yeah, I guess I could.

Gregory: So will you?

Marla: (after a long silence) Yeah, I mean yeah we could… we can check again.

Gregory: You’re being very evasive. I’m sorry I don’t want to offend you, but you don’t look at me a lot of times when you answer, especially if I ask a question. A lot of times you look away which means that you’re thinking, to me anyway. It means you’re thinking of what your answers are rather than saying what your answers are and I don’t want to be offensive, but it’s better to be honest.

Marla: I mean… (Marla is clearly put on the defensive)

Gregory: You see you’re not looking at me right now and when you don’t look at me, I don’t believe you.

Marla: Clara, (her voice stronger than it had been) isn’t well. I don’t know if you’ve noticed… (Gregory starts talking over Marla)

Gregory: What does that mean?

Marla: I don’t know if you’ve noticed that she’s hiding from something. She’s obviously not just in her room all the time, doing fun things. She’s not just…
Gregory: Do you mean she’s mentally not well?

Marla: Well yeah…. I mean, I, that’s what I think. I’m not a psychiatrist, I don’t know. I just see something different in her now and I’m scared of it. I don’t want to pressure her. I don’t want to poke around. I don’t want to make her feel like I’m stalking her.

Gregory: But I want this documentary finished.

Marla: And I know and it’s going to get finished, I promise. I’ll make sure it gets done.

Gregory: You know honestly when I set down here I was hoping that I would, that we would become great friends, and I would make you laugh a lot and I think you’re pretty uncomfortable. Are you?

Marla: Well… its kind of weird isn’t it?

Gregory: Yeah it is. It’s weird.

Marla: That’s all. (Marla’s hand reaches for her coffee cup, across the camera, the most we’ve seen of Marla since the beginning of the video)

Gregory: Well I appreciate you putting up with me, and um… I’ll tell you what, I’ll make a deal with you… I will make sure that this documentary and everything counts for Clara to graduate, or whatever you want it to… I don’t really understand that, but I will do whatever you tell me and that way … But in exchange for that. Actually, not even in exchange for because I don’t want a deal. Here’s what I want. I want the documentary to be finished. That’s the bottom line. Just, I want you to help me. I’m asking. Okay, if you … if part of that is your need for Clara to graduate or whatever I’ll do it, I’ll make sure that happens.

Marla: (quietly) Okay.

Gregory: Cool?

Marla: Yeah um, absolutely.

Gregory: (nods and holds up his pinky in a moment of levity) Pinky Swear?

Marla: Pinky Swear (Gregory laughs)

Gregory: See I’m a teenager now. (Makes hiphop type gestures, while Marla laughs)
