Hearing the truth about my dad... well, about myself too. My dad spent years in a [[The Resistance|resistance]], trying to rehabilitate [[Hymn of One]] members while at the same time fighting [[The Order]]. There's even a passage in here about La Crete, about how it was some- some place that was like a de facto headquarters for all The Order's experiments. Oh, it was- what did he say? Like a, "like a human custom center" where they would bring in each new [[Trait positive|trait positive]] girl and they would look at them, perform experiments on them, examine 'em and then when they were ready, ship 'em off to a new Hymn of One family. It even talks about [[Lord Carruthers|Carruthers]] in here. I don't know who gave me this information last week but whoever they were, they were right. They were right to a point. Carruthers was in the Resistance, but he was a mole planted by The Order to corrupt and destroy the Resistance. While dad was fighting The Order, Carruthers was poisoning the Resistance from the inside trying to convince everyone that the battle was futile, useless... and then he promised him something extraordinary. Something better than money, even better than power: life. Not just life, eternal life. He offered them the ability to conquer the unconquerable.

(''Cut to Jonas setting a first aid kit onto his kitchen counter'')

'''Jonas:''' Eventually Carruthers gained enough support to drive the, uh, better, less corruptable members into hiding. (''Opens first aid kit and starts rummaging through it'') You may be wondering what happened to those who converted. Well, Carruthers killed them once the job was done. They were nothing more than just... just puppets. See, when I was two or three I had a- a surgery. Something to do with my aortic arch. (''Walks over to a drawer and gets a lighter'') It was, um... I don't know, just a minor birth defect or something like that. (''Walks over to a draw and gets a knife'') But the procedure... well, it left me with a scar. (''Shows the scar on his chest'') Right there. And as I got older I wanted to learn about it so I would ask my parents (''puts lighter flame to knife'') and they said that they didn't remember the details. My dad would just say that him and my mom never gave up hope. "Never gave up hope," he would say. (''Drops lighter'') "Remember Jonas, never give up hope" and he would place his hand right here on my scar. Now, I keep thinking back to (''picks up lighter'') the last passage in my dad's journal and it said, "Within my son, hope resides." (''Puts lighter flame to knife again'') And this may be... a shot in the dark but if there's any hope left, I think it's in (''points to scar'') here. So...

(''Jonas turns around and holds the knife up, suggesting that he is going to cut his scar open. The shot cuts to black. Cut to Jonas sitting in his library with a bloody bandage on his chest''.)

'''Jonas:''' (''Exhales, sniffs, and touches his chest'') So, I know you guys think I'm probably crazy, right? Well guess what? (''Holds up a tiny black device'') I found some hope. Look at that. Huh? (''Laughs'') I don't know what's on this thing but whatever it is, it was important to my dad (''sound of glass breaking''). It's important to the Resistance.

'''Watcher:''' (''In the background'') Check in the back! (''Jonas panics and the [[Watcher]] walks in'') Hey!

(''Jonas falls to the floor and starts coughing & groaning. The Watcher holds the gun to his head. Lucy walks in and the Watcher steps away from Jonas. Lucy tries to hold Jonas down but he resists. She finally gets a hold of him and pulls something out of his pocket. She boots him in the face and Jonas yelps in pain. Lucy walks out of the room and the Watcher comes in, holding the gun to Jonas's head once again. He grabs Jonas's arm''.)

I guess whoever wrote this things must have had some kind of a naval background. (''Sniffs'') Yeah, that smells like a clue. (''Cut to Jonas at the edge of the lake'') This is so... so weird. I've been here before. Yeah... I used to go fishing here with my [[The Whartons|dad]] when I was a kid. Maybe there was more to those trips than I thought. (''Cut to a tree and Jonas looking up it'') (''Laughs'') Ahh! I have no idea what I'm looking for to be honest. First part of the code translated as "Caldon Lake." 'Kay, we're here. But then it said, "by the marked tree," so... I'm guessing one of the trees around here's gotta have some sort of marking on it? I don't know. Keep your eyes open. Oh, yeah, I guess I gotta do that.

My dad's name is on this paper alongside eleven other names including Michael Byron Carruthers. (''Gets louder'') As in... (''turns around to see if anyone is around and gets quieter'') as in [[Lord Carruthers]]. No, why would Lord Carruthers' name be on a Resistance document? I don't know. (''Grabs briefcase'') But we're gonna find out.

'''Jonas:''' You know, when I think of this lake or this mission statement... (''sighs'') it makes me realize this is getting all very, very personal. You know, I started this trip out with Gina's drawings and now everything, everything's leading back to my parents. You know, when I first found out they were still [[Hey Dad|alive]], man... that's a feeling that's just impossible to describe. When they didn't [[A Family Affair|remember]] me, I just... I just kinda gave up on 'em. I gave up on ever knowing the truth about their role in the Resistance, what happened to them after they disappeared, just- just the whole thing.
