'''Virgil''' was one of the [[Hymn of One]]'s [[Watcher]]s. He was present at the [[The Ceremony (ritual)#The Staged Ceremony|fake Ceremony]], but given that this was his only appearance in [[Bree]]'s times, one can assume he wasn't assigned to protect Bree. He was, however, the primary Watcher concerned with [[Emma]]'s well-being, frequently seen fighting whomever he considered the greatest danger to her at that moment.

Virgil was notable for the special relationship he had to Jonas and the TAAG: [[My Fatal Mistake|In the woods]], he revealed to Jonas [[Claire]]'s true identity, what was going on behind the scenes, and what a horrible mistake Jonas had made in trusting [[Claire]]. He also spared the TAAG's life and fought the [[rogue Elder]] and his [[Shadow]] by their side. Suprisingly enough Virgil [[What Happened?|allowed Emma leave with TAAG]], even though he was clearly in control of the situation. On the other hand, he was seen threatening and hunting the gang [[Watch Your Back|multiple]] [[Is This The End?|times]].

While people initially just assumed he was helping the gang because he knew Jonas would do everything he could to protect Emma, thus making Virgil's own job easier, the events of [[Bloodlines: Part 1]] suggest that he actually did switch sides, and wanted Emma to live and be free.

==Background==
Virgil first appeared at [[The Ceremony|the Fake Ceremony]], but only in the distance, without being specially noted. His first real encounter with the TAAG was [[Stakeout... With A Girl|when Jonas and Sarah were staking out Carl and Sonia]], quickly followed by them running like hell. [[Robbing the Cradle|The next time they saw him]] basically played out the same way, with the TAAG trying to stalk the [[Ceremony Baby]], being discovered by Virgil, and then being chased by him. Virgil seemed to have met his maker after Claire shot him in the woods when [[Finding Help|Jonas brought Emma to her]], but he returned as soon as Claire was gone (with Emma), [[Watch Your Back|very upset about what Jonas had done]]. He [[My Fatal Mistake|explained to Jonas]] how he had been set up, and that the rogue Elder and Claire were even worse than the Order, leading to Jonas trying to get Emma back. Although at first it seemed like Virgil was the enemy once more, with him [[Is This The End?|chasing the TAAG through the streets ''again'']], in the end it was he who [[What Happened?|saved their lives and let them all go to safety]]. Virgil appeared next in [[Bloodlines: Part 1]], where he was apparently supposed to meet Jonas and Daniel at William Porter's house. Unfortunately, his cover seems to have been blown, and a few moments later, he was shot by another Watcher.

The '''Hymn of One''' (Ho0), originally believed to be [[Thelema|Thelemic]] in nature, is now known to be the [[Losing My Religion|religious front]] for a mysterious organization called [[The Order]]. Many argue that the HoO is not truly a religion, but [[It's A Cult|a cult]]. They note the HoO's brainwashing techniques, such as having members recite "[[It's A Cult|The Hymn of One is fun]]" repeatedly, as highly characteristic of cultish behavior. They also [[Lying Bastards|allegedly advocate]] [[free will]], but, like most cults, do not truly believe in it. This is evidenced in the way they pursued [[Bree]] and tried to [[Miss Me?|manipulate her]] into doing [[the Ceremony (ritual)|the Ceremony]], even after she had [[I Listened To Daniel|decided against it]].

The religion uses a variety of recruitment methods, such as [[Sing With Me|promotional videos]], [[Spreading the Song|fliers]], and [[It's A Cult|seminars]]. They promote the idea that one can find eternal happiness by [[Sing Until The End|singing one's eternal song]]. They also revere [[Aleister Crowley]] as an important figure in their system of beliefs, and quote him on their official website (http://www.hymnofone.org).

Most members of the Hymn of One are very naïve, and don't know anything about the Order whatsoever. Many members live in controlled [[commune|communities]], made up entirely of Hymn of One members. They are told that their duty is to protect [[trait positive]] girls from [[Spreading the Song|the time they are born until the time they complete the Ceremony]], but have no knowledge of what the Ceremony actually is.

==Role of Women==
Bree [[Losing My Religion|says]] that her [[Bree's parents#Mother|mother]] was introduced to The Hymn of One by a university professor when she was studying at [[Scotland|Edinburgh]]. She mentions that her mother had been "looking for answers", and believed that she found them with the Hymn of One. Bree's father, however, noted some changes in his wife after she joined. He said that while she used to be introverted, after joining she was the "first to pick an argument." ([[Losing My Religion]] (Apr. 3, 2007)).

From this, we can deduce that the Hymn of One strongly values their [[Feminist themes|female members]] and encourages them to stand up for themselves, and more importantly, their religious beliefs.

==Service==
Several Hymn of One members believe in doing service around the world. A fine example of this would be the [[Lullaby Project]], comprised of several volunteers who beleive to be helping low-income mothers-to-be during their pregnancies.

==Publicated Works==
To date, only one book based on the beliefs of the Hymn of One have ever been placed in the spotlight. The book, ''[[Finding the One]]'', by [[Rupert Van Helden]] is apparently a popular text to give to new members of the Hymn of One, as witnessed by [[Steve]] giving a copy to [[Kate]] for [[War is Over|Christmas]] and [[Carl]] giving a copy to [[Sarah]] during her [[Party Crashers|initiation]].

==Hymn of One logo==
The Hymn of One's logo is an upside-down musical symbol known as a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermata fermata]. A fermata is used either over or, in the case of the upside-down fermata, under a note. It signifies that a note will be held out for longer than its true value. The actual value of a note with which a fermata is used is up to the conductor of the performer. However, the idea of using the symbol is that the note is held indefinitely. This alludes to the Hymn of One's mantra of "finding your eternal song".

In [[Playing Doctor]] (Dec. 3, 2007), [[Jonas]] stated that he wanted people's thoughts on how to bring [[the Order]] down, and wanted to talk on the phone will people about it. On December 13, 2007, at 7pm PST, Jonas conducted a conference call with fans.

It was revealed during the call that [[Emma]] had been receiving double-doses of the serum to turn her trait negative from her parents, which was making her sick.

[[Jonas]] also mentioned that he wanted to concentrate on bringing down the lullaby project at the moment. That this was probably the weakest link, and that he wanted to start fighting the Order in the form of the lullaby project.

We also learned that [[Charlie]] of [[KateModern]] had been in contact with Jonas.

The call ended after [[Virgil]] somehow hacked into the call.

'''Chippercat:''' Yeah, um, actually, according to the recorded call we had heard between [[Drew Avery]] and [[Isaac Gilman]], Bree was only one injection away from being made permanently trait negative. But she never developed any of the same symptoms or the illnesses as Emma and the other girls. So, I'm just curious. You guys have Drew Avery's notes from the Camp Play box, and the box that you guys found at the boat dock. Have you all shared any of these research notes with Dr. Hart and, if so, what are his thoughts on the subject?

'''Jonas:''' Well, we have. I mean, that's a really good question, um, first of all. And we have. Um, it's difficult to talk about right now because, again, I'm not sure how secure everything is here. But, and again it's hard for me as well because I don't speak doctor-talk. That, um, that I guess Emma was given these injections right, and I guess she was given double-dosage. Which Bree was only getting from her dad, who knew what he was doing, was giving a smaller amount--the right level of the dosage. And so, because Emma was getting a double-dosage to begin with and her parents didn't really know what they were doing, I think--I suspect anyway--that they were giving her more of the shots than she was supposed to get because they wanted to hurry up to get her to be trait negative. Um, so that was why she went through those--the sickness and she had the--yeah, she went through the series of injections twice. So, that's why she was sick and Bree wasn't.

'''Jonas:''' It's hard for me to do the science talk, but that's what I got out of what he said. And as far as if we've shared the information with Dr. Hart, um, yeah, of course we have. Cause he's our go-to guy right now. He's all we really have, and we--we trust him. At first it was like we had to trust him, but now I really--I trust him. And why wouldn't we share everything we have with this guy? That's all we have.

ChC: right absolutely now I think there was a lot of confusion you know people didn't understand because we had heard [that] the other girls who were manufactured trait positive and as they turned trait negative they showed these symptoms so we thought it had something to do with the changing from one trait to the next so that that clears up a lot.
