I figure this discussion is bound to start soon, so I might as well start it myself. This video raises a few questions:
#Who is the blogger for this video, Daniel or OpAphid?
#Should this video be treated as a part of the LG15 video series, as an OpAphid video, or both?
#How should Lose Something? and The Ends Justify The Means be treated since they are previous videos that were reposted on lonelygirl15.com?
#What should we do about OpAphid apparently brainwashing Daniel?!?!?!?--Jonpro 13:54, 4 February 2007 (CST)
#Does Daniel truly remember Cassie as an affect of (apparent) brainwashing, or is he reading a script of sorts?

General Comments:
17:07, 4 February 2007 (CST)17:07, 4 February 2007 (CST)~~
The vid is signed by Oppy, not DB. Btw; a substantial Oppy vid?! o hell yeah! -Nieriel.Manwathiel

:Here's my take on your questions, Jonpro (and by the way, they are very all very good questions)
:#OpAphid is the blogger. Even though Daniel is in the vid, it is clearly done Op-style.
:#Yes, and no. The lists should be merged. I saw on the lonelygirl15 website that they've added the OpVids to the regular video column. Lose Something? is now number 0121b, meaning it goes after Foosball Battle (although because of a glitch, it looks like it comes right before). The Ends Justify The Means is number 0115b, coming in right after Bree And I Hooked Up. In that case it actually shows up in the right order in the list. So this is an Op blog, but it comes after "The Cowboy" in the template, and not after "Lose Something?"... am I confusing you or making sense?
:#No clue... maybe a kiss from his true love will snap him out of it? prob not...
:#Now this is just my opinion... but I don't think he means anything he says. I don't think he suddenly remembers Cassie, I think he's being told to say all he said. He probably believes it all though, since he is brainwashed. Bree's dad wanted that to happen? lol
:Ok, hope this clarifies some issues. I would like to go ahead and start integrating the OpAphid videos with the lonelygirl blogs, but I want to hear what other people think first. It seems the Creators are really trying to make the point that the storylines have converged and are inseparable now.
:Also, the site is still acting pretty slow, so I prob won't be doing work on it for a little while... but in the meantime I'd like to see how others interpret this.
:OwenIsCool 17:45, 4 February 2007 (CST)

::Sigh... does anyone remember when this was a cute videoblogger in her room that everybody thought was a real person? When the goal was to tell a "highly-realistic story"? Anyways, here's the Creators on the new relationship between LG15 and OpAphid. http://lonelygirl15.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5955 Some OpAphid videos are required viewing. When they are required, they'll be in the video column. The puzzles, however, are optional. Or something.--JayHenry 21:12, 4 February 2007 (CST)

::I totally agree about this being a cute video. What the hell happened? I really don't know where they're going with this. Not only does it not follow a logical order/plot, it isn't entertaining. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for this video, and now I'm not really excited about the next video. They've killed the interest for me. Heck, they could have kept the order thing being a weird cult. That'd be fine. This is less cult and more science fiction.
:::Are you kidding??? I'm TOTALLY on the edge of my seat now! What the hell is gonna happen? They can't just let The Order take take Daniel without a fight. But what are they gonna do? This was the first real WOW moment I've had since "The Unthinkable." ~ Jbshryne 02:30, 5 February 2007 (CST)

Perhaps this is just me, but does anyone else find it odd that it says "This is the first in a series of Op Aphid videos uploaded to the main page"?
How does anyone know there are gonna be more Op Aphid videos on the front page? This could be the one and only.

I doubt it'll be the only one seeing as more then 1 Op Aphid vid has already been added. - Maddie

Thanks for your reply, OwenIsCool. I agree with your suggestion to merge the lists. It will take some work, but since the Creators have merged the videos in the column on lonelygirl15.com, we just have to do the same thing here. If there are no other ideas about how to handle this, I think this is the best suggestion.--Jonpro 22:06, 4 February 2007 (CST)

I do not see how this is an Op video. This video is from Daniel. --LGFAN

:Okay, first my comments on these questions.
:#OpAphid is clearly the blogger, despite the video being all Daniel.
:#I think the distinction between LG15 and OpAphid was just killed. This presents some difficulties for the LGPedia that I will try to address below.
:#All the OpAphid videos should be integrated into the series, using the numbers suggested on the sidebar of the main lonelygirl15.com page.
:#As far as the LGPedia goes, we do nothing but speculate in the notes section. What a person might do elsewhere is entirely up to them.
:#It's hard to tell at this point what Daniel is really on about with Cassie. He may have been reminded of her by the Order, (imagine if itscassie turns out to be canon, and Daniel has reconnected with her; it's possible, although I still don't think it's so) as the fact that it has been mentioned suggests it is going to be important to the plot.
:--Brucker 10:06, 5 February 2007 (CST)

templature
The newest development with regards to OpAphid presents us with a question on which templates to use for these videos. The regular Blog3 template that we'd used for the official series or the green Aphid template. I suppose I have a slight preference for the Aphid template. According to the creators post at the forum, it looks like there will be two types of OpAphid videos -- those that are required viewing and those that are still primarily for the ARGers. Should we even bother making the distinction or should we just treat it the same as everything else? --JayHenry 01:05, 5 February 2007 (CST)

:We have the Op template, might as well use it, I think. It would also serve to distinguish Op vids from regular blogs, and that distinction is needed now more than ever since the Creators have intertwined the two series.
:JayHenry, Brucker, what do you think about including these Op videos on the LG15 list of vids? It seems from the post JayHenry linked to that at least some of them should be treated as mandatory viewing material. Also, what do you think about "merging" the video pages? What I mean is, instead of OpAphid being a separate sequence of vids from LG15, work them as if they were another blog, like Bree's or Daniel's or Jonas's. Example: The "previous blog" to "Lose Something?" would be "Foosball Battle", instead "The Ends Justify The Means".
:I don't know if this is the best approach, since maybe the Creators didn't intend for all the Op vids to be merged in like that. This one clearly needs to be "merged", but we can't have it separate from the other Op vids... sry, I'm not making any sense anymore. Look what you've done, Creators! We slave away trying to logically organize information about your series and every couple of weeks you have to change things around. "Let's get add a seen character with a speaking role, but make her totally irrelevant to the plot. Let's have Jonas post a blog under Bree's account--and let's make the description ambiguous. Let's throw in another "Seen" but minor character that defies all categorization. Now, let's post an Op video on the 'official videos' side of the website. That'll throw them." >_<
:OwenIsCool 01:50, 5 February 2007 (CST) (I'll be back tomorrow when I'm not so touchy about this Oppy mess)
::I disagree about Random Girl... she was totally relevant to the plot, as she reminded Daniel that there were other girls in the world (Breeniverse?) besides Bree. However, I object to them not even giving her a DAMN NAME. ~ Jbshryne 02:30, 5 February 2007 (CST)
:::Okay, I've got a beef with the creators again. In trying to organize this information, we come up with logical ways to categorize and present it, and then once again, they change the rules. I think there is a big problem here that we have to go back and redo a lot of the stuff on these videos. Are they now all canon? Are we supposed to change our understanding of how the characters in OpAphid are interacting with lg15 characters? Do we need to redefine the concept of canon in some way, since the OpAphid videos were sort of pseudo-canonical, and now are full-blown part and parcel of the lg15 world? While I accept that there is artistic license to go where they want with their series, those of us who have been working hard on the LGPedia to make it all it is can get a bit tired when things get this scrambled. It was annoying enough to me when Daniel posted on Bree's account, but this changes a whole lot. --208.144.234.2 10:43, 5 February 2007 (CST)

I Lied To Daniel is the 57th video in the Lonelygirl15 video series.

Transcript
(the camera is in an extreme close-up of Bree, who is wearing a red wool cap)

Bree: Daniel and I just had a really long talk. Umm... I'm at his friend's house. He came and picked me up. I don't know, I just...I felt like I needed to, to get out for a little while. Daniel just told me everything that happened at the ceremony and... (Bree sighs) I don't know, it just...it isn't right. I know he said it before but I think that this time, I agree with him. I've asked Lucy a million questions and...she still hasn't given me any answers!

(as she talks, Daniel can be seen walking around in the background. He appears to be packing.)

These people in Daniel's videos... the ones that set up the fake ceremony... I don't even know their names! That scares me. I don't even think that my parents know exactly what's going on. I mean, my dad's been giving me these shots, and when I ask him what they are he says that they're good for me. I mean...I don't really think he even knows what they are.

(Bree is now filming Daniel as he packs)

Bree: So Daniel...

Daniel: Yes?

Bree: What have you been doing here?

Daniel: Nothing really.

Bree: Watch a lot of movies? Any good ones?

Daniel: Nah, not really.

Bree: I missed you.

(Daniel is a little caught off guard. He pauses and smiles.)

Daniel: Missed you too.

(Bree giggles happily. The camera goes back to the extreme close-up of Bree.)

Bree: I've just decided that I'm going to tell my parents everything. I'm going to tell them about the fake ceremony and how...Daniel was being photographed. I'll leave out the part where he broke into Lucy's apartment. And then I'm gonna tell them that... (she takes a deep breath) I don't wanna go through with it. Um... I hope they're not disappointed 'cause I know that they were really excited when...when I got chosen for the ceremony, but...you know...Daniel's right. It's too dangerous.

meta-discussion and sketchy details
I wanted to discuss something about the videos as a whole, but wasn't sure where to put it. Then I realized that this incident embodies exactly the sort of thing I want to talk about.

Daniel mentions this article, but gives very few details about it. (Did the article say she was abducted, or just that she had disappeared? Was the girl ever found? Why was Crowley mentioned in the article if he was never linked to the incident?) That in itself is a bit troubling, but more troubling to me is the fact that nobody can find information on this anywhere but Daniel.

In some videos, when something odd happens, you can see that it's clearly a clue, for instance, when Purple Monkey holds up the numbers in Bree The Cookie Monster. In other videos, there are odd things that happen, and it's hard to tell what to make of it, like Bree's claim about sacrificing monkeys in A Peace Offering (and P. Monkey Boogies). Is it something randomly made up to be funny, something purposefully made up to be a clue, or something that is a real-life fact that was included for one of the above reasons?

What are we really meant to make of the info in this video? There are many possibilities. The event may have really happened in 1943 in the real world, or maybe it's something that only happened in 1943 in the Breeniverse. If it was made up by the writers--regardless of whether it happened in the Breeniverse or not--was it put in Daniel's video to be a clue, or just to add a bit of spookiness to the story? While it seems a bit of stretch, it's a possibility that Daniel is lying, and the article doesn't exist, even in the Breeniverse.

So the main question on this video (and other matters like the Yield sign and the way some videos appear to have things edited into or out of them) for me is, is the vagueness of Daniel's reporting of this incident a case of Daniel being sloppy in conveying details, Daniel telling a clumsy lie, intentional vagueness on the part of the writers, or poor writing on the part of the writers? Or is it something else entirely? --Brucker 09:49, 20 October 2006 (PDT)

The abuduction has me baffled. I have looked for information and there are some links between Crowley and AZ but nothing about an abduction...........I think its is probably importand and relevant given that one of Lucys locations is in AZ- modelmotion

:Really interesting thoughts Brucker. I think the abduction should definitely be included in the Breeniverse timeline. My guess is that this particular bit of information, about Crowley, was created for the story. Not only can people find no evidence of an abduction, nobody has even been able to find evidence that Crowley spent time in Arizona.--JayHenry 11:31, 20 October 2006 (PDT)

Okay, let me add more to this, because the revelations of the weekend highlight a little more of this issue, I believe. In Bree The Cookie Monster, when Purple Monkey shows the numbers, as has been noted, this is the most clear and blatant clue in the whole series. The blatantness of the clue always seemed to me to be a case of sloppiness on the part of the creators, since it seems from what I read in the CassieIsWatching stuff, there are a lot of people who can dig out clues that are far more subtle, so why be so blatant about it?

Now it would seem that it was Bree who was being blatant. She put the clue in the video in such an obvious fashion that nobody could miss it, because she was planting a red herring for Daniel. The clumsiness of the clue was, in a sense, a part of the overall plotline.

So I think it once again brings a lot of things into question. I forgot to mention it above, apparently, but in many of the videos, with all this excess of editing, there are times when the lighting in the room seems to show that the video we are watching is edited out of order (I'm having a hard time finding a blatant example, but I'm pretty sure there was one). Is that bad editing, or a clue?--Brucker 11:02, 23 October 2006 (PDT)

:Great points, Brucker. Do you ever post at the cove? Lots of this sort of analysis. In the Breeniverse, Bree did the Cookie Monster video before she was even told about the ceremony. Doesn't seem likely that they were planting a trap for Daniel that early, or that she would have gone along with it. I think 10-12-06 is an example of the creators trying to be too clever.--JayHenry 11:18, 23 October 2006 (PDT)

::Hmm, you're right, that clue does seem to come out of sequence, doesn't it. I keep thinking whenever I read people theorizing that Bree is actually setting up a trap for Daniel that they've just seen that movie from the 1980's too many times (if you don't know the movie I'm talking about, forget it; that's a huge spoiler) and it doesn't seem likely to me. Now I've got to wonder. All of this is either going to turn out to be really stupid or really brilliant in the end when all the pieces come together.--208.144.234.2 13:28, 23 October 2006 (PDT)

I understand the reasons for the policy regarding only posting Revver videos. I feel, however, that if this is to be a good wiki, we should at least always provide a link to YouTube as well. For several reasons: 1) Thoroughness is preferable. 2) Some browsers, especially on computers where the user does not have admin privileges (such as younger fans or people at work) and can't install different software, do not support the file format of Revver. The Wiki should not impede fans with such limitations 3) The tags and dialog that went with the YouTube videos are interesting to many people.--JayHenry 12:50, 3 October 2006 (PDT)
::Terry might address this, but I believe the site owners specifically requested that wherever possible, the video links should point to Revver instead of to YouTube. There is even a note regarding this preference in the text of the MainPage. (Nora at work)

:::Hi Nora, did you read my original post on this? I acknowledged the note on the main page in my post. I think it's okay if they point first to revver, but I said they should also point to YouTube. I also explained my reasoning -- points 1, 2 and 3. YouTube links can go at the bottom, if they must. But for someone interested in the tags, or the video responses, or with software unable to watch Revver videos, it's just going out of our way to be unaccomodating if we censor the YouTube links. And that's not the sort of behavior a wiki should support.--JayHenry 11:04, 10 October 2006 (PDT)

Well, the site belongs to the site owners. The site owners legitimately want to promote getting a return on their investment, however small the return from Revver clickthrus might be. Having a resource on the site they own point to their preferred site for video embedding, *rather than* to another site, is their prerogative. I feel it's a gross misuse of the concept "censorship" to use it in this context. Censoring is done primarily by governmental entities, primarily to suppress information. This official site preferring one host site for its videos over other sites is no more censorship than Anchor Cove deciding not to host a forum for cassieiswatching. On the other hand, I'm not going to get into a revert war over this. Although this is a wiki, I don't the the culture of a promotional wiki is identical to the culture which wikipedia itself cultivates. Nora 16:34, 10 October 2006 (PDT)

:I didn't mean censor as a loaded word. We're saying more or less the same thing -- I really, really understand their reasoning. They asked us to include Revver links in the templates. We've done that. By putting YouTube links at the bottom of the video pages (and they'll really be buried now that video pages have gotten so big) we're not hurting their project, but also not inconveniencing people who are going to visit YouTube no matter what for reasons 2 and 3.--JayHenry 17:44, 10 October 2006 (PDT)
Bukanator?
We've had a small revert war going on regarding Bukanator and Grant Steinfeld. Full disclosure: I originally created both pages because I thought they were significant. But it's not productive to keep deleting and undeleting his name from the main page. I think we should discuss if he belongs on the main page and where, and see if we can reach a consensus.--JayHenry 08:44, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

:I started a discussion about this just before getting this message in a private part of the forum. So Nora and I will probably sort it out there. Thanks for intervening though, and we will keep you updated with what gets decided, I agree something had to be done. HyeMew 08:51, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

:I think it should be an open, not private, discussion. It seems to me that it's a problem because of Bukanator's strange status within the Breeniverse. He is a creation of The Creators and lonelygirl15 and Danielbeast both acknowledged him, and his administration of the fansite, in the comments of YouTube, thus he is a character. Comments from the YouTube accounts are canon, thus he is canon. So he's a canon unseen character. I think you could make the case that a better classification could be used than "unseen," but rather than add a category that's only Bukanator, I think we should leave him as an unseen character, and explain his story fully in his article--JayHenry 09:19, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

:It is only a private convo because of the category I placed it in. It could very well be moved to a public one, I know I'd like you to see it Jay. Of course lg15 and db "acknowledged" Buka, there is no question that he is "canon" and not a cassie spin-off character. What I'm saying is whether he is a character in the integral story line. For example in the Cookie movie some people that sent in suggestions were mentioned. Winekone and Brookers, etc. have been mentioned in the videos as well. Buka has not. Does that mean these random people are "unseen" characters too, just because Bree has mentioned them? No, Winekone nor Buka (as of right now) have not done anything to be a "part" of the story, and therefore not a character. If things had gone according to plan, we all would have thought Buka to just be some random fan who made a site like all the rest of us and there wouldn't even be a discussion as to whether he's a character to the plot or not. Remember, every page ever doesn't need a special place on the main page. I wouldn't be opposed to Buka being somewhere (a crew section, perhaps, as he is a "crew" member of sorts), but we can't confuse running the tribute site with being a character in the story! I can tell you right now a "bukanator" will never drop by in the videos ever, so why put him in a pantheon with Paul, Andrea, Bree's mom..., who one day could? HyeMew 09:57, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

We don't know that Buka would never have had a larger role in the ongoing storyline. I feel that to be an unwarranted assumption. If the "storyline" is perceived as being Bree and Daniel *and the response building up around them on the internet,* then any entity confirmed to have been invented by Miles/Mesh/Greg is just as valid a character as Daniel and Bree and Lucy are. If it is invalid to list Boris Bukanator as a character, although he comes from the Creators, why do we accept the tutle's name as "Owen," when that didn't come from the Creators? In other words, "DUCK SEASON!" Nora 03:26, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

:"We don't know that Buka would never have had a larger role in the ongoing storyline... an unwarranted assumption" Well I think similarly it's an unwarrented assumption that, until he does, that he WILL have a larger part in the story! Also, what do you mean about why do we accept the turtle's name as canon? It did come from the creators. As of Grillz the title mentioned "featuring Ow'n". "WABBIT SEASON!" HyeMew 13:03, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

:It depends what you mean by storyline. Buka's not integral to the storyline if you mean the storyline of Daniel and Bree as written by Mesh. But he is integral to the storyline of how the Lonelygirl15 production played out in the real world. Buka's fan site is integral to the production -- his fan site is still the hub of the LG15 community. I would argue that Winekone and Brookers and SteveXCraig are not characters because they're real people. Bukanator is, quite literally, a "character." Maybe we should make a separate category for him, other than "Unseen Characters," but I don't see anything that merits him being bumped off the main page. Unrelatedly, I think Paul and Andrea should be the same page for now -- right now they're a single entity.--JayHenry 16:18, 8 October 2006 (PDT)

::DUCK SEASON!

:::Combining Paul and Andrea would be a waste, because what if they do diverge, even in a slight way? That's just unecessary. I agree Buka can be on the main page, just not in the "unseen characters" section. Unseen characters section should refer to those who have a chance of showing up and are in "Bree's" world. I think Bukanator, as he "acts" as a staff member, despite being just a character should be listed in the staff section. That way he is on the main page as desired but not listed as a character in the videos' story line.
I think that is an acceptable compromise. What is NOT acceptable is me just having to remove a "Boris Bukatar" as an unseen story character when he is ALREADY listed in the staff section. No matter what Bukanator and Boris Bukatar are completely one-in-the-same and there is NO reason to list him twice like that, nor to give Boris a page seperate from his on-line name Bukanator. ::::Hye, my secret boyfriend, you're about a day behind the times. Bukanator has very, *very* recently begun to come out of hibernation and act as an independent character. JayHenry can probably fill you in, or Milowent. Buka has (or once had) a pet dog and liked to swim. He (is?) is moving and talking and communicating with people now. Might be a spoof, might not be a spoof, but until we know differently, he/it is as much a provisional character as anyone else. Remember that in the greater Breeniverse, we are all characters, as we have received in revelatory hallucination from our Holy Guardian Angel. Does anyone else but me think there should be not just an index for the videos as a whole but a separate index for the lonelygirl15 videos and the danielbeast videos? That is to say that while Daniel Responds is episode "0007", it might also be referred to as video "D001", and episode "0011" Boy Problems... could also be "B010"? Although it would take some work, I admit, it might be nice for certain purposes to not only have the navigation pane below each video as it currently is, but also a similar one with which you could skip to "Next Daniel Blog", you know?--Brucker 09:57, 10 October 2006 (PDT)
Suggestion to admins?
On a semi-related note to the previous matter, it seems to me that the Main page is the one most susceptible to vandalism and see-sawing fights over content. Is it possible to make this page editable only by registered users so that we could at least cut down on that? Sure, it wouldn't solve the issue, but it would help. --Brucker 10:54, 18 October 2006 (PDT)
I do not believe in censorship. Its up to the users to keep the wiki accurate and if someone does not want to register that should be their perogative in a free society.--Modelmotion

:I don't know the ins and outs of moderating users' comments, but assuming that a person who was not registered could still edit this page, I don't see any problem at all. If they didn't want to register, but they had a good suggestion for the main page, they could put it here, and one of the registered users could update it. --208.144.234.2 12:47, 19 October 2006 (PDT)
I completely agree with Brucker. While the rest of the 'pedia should be left open to anonymous editors, there's good reason to protect this main page -- it's what most people see when they come here, and there aren't enough active editors to police the main page 24/7. Wikipedia protects its main page for the same reasons. It's not censorship to require somebody to take 30 seconds to sign up for an account before they edit this main portal. But it will deter vandals who like to show up, change the main page to say, "My Parents Suck Daniel's Dick" and leave.--JayHenry 09:49, 19 October 2006 (PDT)
