'''Gemma:''' Bree, I don't think you're taking this seriously enough. It doesn't matter if you've made the decision not to be in [[Bree's ritual|the ceremony]]. It's not your decision to make. They are in charge. To be honest, it hasn't been easy for me to be here. Even though I wasn't picked for the ceremony like you were, it's still difficult for me to be independent. I've known since I was a little girl that one day, I would leave. I've always had misgivings about that place. You know, when I was thirteen or so, I liked this boy, and, um...he was from the town just adjacent to [[commune|our commune]]. His name was Sam, and his parents owned a petrol station. One day my mum read my diary and saw his name in it. She knew he and his parents didn't subscribe to our way of thinking, I was told I was never to see him again. I argued with my parents, but it didn't matter. We used a different petrol station from then on. Look, I understand it's hard to know who to trust. I know that. It's your decision, I just hope you'll listen to some of the things I'm saying.
