question about avatars

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but why will my profile page not allow me to link to an avatar larger than 80x80 pixels or 6kb, when clearly there are many avatars in use on this forum that far exceed those specifications? Am I missing something here... :?:

beavinator, it says you're not supposed to, and we ask that you not because it puts stress on things by making it hard to read.

If it's too wide, it'll make the writing area too small...or if it's too tall, it will make the writing area stretch out too long.

So Cher, are you saying that the forum specifically wont allow you to link to an avatar that's too big? 'Cuz I'm wondering if maybe he's just having a linking issue to begin with...everytime I change mine, I enter in an IMG tag, realize that's wrong, erase it, and then enter in the correct URL. You'd think I'd have learned by now. :D

Wow. No I wasn't making that particular mistake, but I WAS doing something equally as dumb, namely forgetting part of the URL to my own damn website. Oy...

Thanks for the responses.

Just sounds like a linking issue to me. Try hosting the images in like photo bucket first. Then use the url code. Make sure you do stay around the suggested size though. It does complicate the forum if you're too far over.

Hee! Glad to see it's working now. :)

Yeah...it is a little wide though, ain't it.
How do I shrink this thing without making it illegible?

Speaking of avatars, your current one r0xx the s0xx, Mirage.

just resize it. You can do that easily when you upload it using photobucket. Or you can do it using another image program you have.

www.photobucket.com if you want

Yeah, I know. Apparently MS Photo Editor just blows. If I resize in the least it gets all blurry and you can't read the text. I'll let my wife have a crack at it with her mad Photoshop skillz when she gets home. :)

No, it's not that the forum software won't allow it...

But... If you use Photobucket, for instance, you can upload it there, then click EDIT, then once you're in their edit area, you can click "avatar" and agree to that size, and it'll set you up with something avatar sized right there and VOILA! You're set, no thinking required! I've taken to doing things that way...and my little pea brain thanks me on a regular basis...
