Well my belly button is not pierced, but I have lots of other piercings. So I will try to offer some wise words.
How much OVER the barbell is it crusing? Crusting over the barbell is highly normal. However the amount of the crusing is what you should be concerned about. If it is crusting WAY over the barbell like where it looks like the skin might cover the whole barbell and get barried in your skin, that's when you get concerned.
I've found it works quite well, if you have a detachable shower head, pull it off and BLAST hot water with some ANTI-bacterial soap against your new piercing. It will clear up some of the crust and clean it good. And make sure to TWIST TWIST TWIST. 24/7 TWIST that barbell.
Hope this helps.

sometimes your body might reject the piercing as well...it happened with my belly butten ring. Basically it was pushing the bar through my skin ....just be careful

rejection happens a lot with belly button piercings. Even if you have other piercings...it tends to happen mostly with your belyl button.
Try this:
Take a chamomile tea bag, soak it in luke warm water for 30 seconds and lay it on your piercing. That will help with swelling and some of the crusting. Leave it on for 5 minutes or so.
Then whip it clean with a cloth dampened in soapy water (soap as in a gentle hand soap or even a baby wash). Then Moisterize the area with Lubriderm, or any scent free moisterizer (I typicically used Aveno Outmeal, but anything is fine)

All I did with mine is wash is with dial hand soap a couple times a day. If the crust gets worse, I'd have someone look at it. But I think a little is normal.
Do you like it?? I love mine. I hope it works out for ya.

A bit of crust is totally normal. It was for me and I have had a happy naval piercing for about 7 years or so.

Haha. Well I'd be uber scared of the skin crusted ALL THE WAY OVER my piercing.

It's just a bit on the out part. I think it's fine now.
