i used to live in germany and my friends would put an onion on the radiator and let it sit overnight and then drink the juice in the morning. it was the most vile, disgusting thing EVER. i would stick with tea and honey.

I take Emergen-Cs as a preventive measure against colds, daily or every other day, and it seems to work. The only time I've had a cold since summer was this January when I stopped taking them. I was taking them a few weeks ago and I started to get a scratchy throat and runny nose, so I took some more and it never developed into a full-blown cold. Maybe start taking them now and continue from now on?

Do not even get me started on stuff like Airborne and ColdMD.
My advice would be to drink and much orange juice as possible. That's what I do when I am getting/have a cold.

just be careful on how much OJ you drink, the acid in it can be really bad for your stomach (if over done).
Ummm ok Vitamin C is always good.
try that Coldezz (spelling) stuff, and the other stuff that is like it ( I can't remember the name right now sorry) works well for me, and has shortened the length of colds for me, mine usually last a really long time.
and lastly, this works really well... (it's a good idea to do it close to bed time)
mix 1 oz Beam, 3 oz hot water, 3 tsp sugar and if you have a peppermint, drop the peppermint in it... then drink it hot

echinacea helps support your immune system. When I take them daily with my vitamins, I don't ever get fully sick.

I have to ask, are you sure its a cold and not allergies? Because it is allergy season and that could be why the medication your trying isn't working. If you can I'd see a doctor but if you can't than I'd try allergy meds and see how it works for you.

I tried Zicam last time I had a cold... they say to take it at first sign of a cold and keep taking it every so many hours. It really kept it from being a full-blown cold and got me over it quicker.
I hear there's a lawsuit against them for killing taste buds or sense of smell (depending on how you take it), but I think that's only folks who use it all the time (like some folks take airborne every day to stave off colds). I'd use it again.

Vitamin C is good, though it's not neccesarily a great way to get rid of colds. It's just good for preventing them. Like someone above said, Emergen-C's are absolutely amazing ways to prevent colds, but since you already have a cold that probably won't work.
Tea with honey is always good. Just drink lots and LOTS of fluids, and rest as much as possible.
I normally just take motrin pills whenever I get sick. That's only if the symptoms are really bad. Drinking lots and resting lots is truly the best way to get better.
By the way, I'm sorry to hear that you're sick! That's no fun at all.

Hope you get better soon.

Zicam that's what I was trying to think of!! I used it before and didn't have any problems with it, and it worked really really well. I'd take it again too (it's a little on the expensive IMO, but well worth it).

Be careful with this if you have any allergies... I have ALLERGIES...and found out the hard way that I'm allergic to the stuff... <sigh>
