The Punch

Alright I don't know if anyone caught this, if they have, I apologize.

But did anyone notice how Jonas threw a punch, and the sound was there (you know that punch smack sound). But the Watcher didn't even flinch. He just kind of stood there, and held up his arm, and bree got between them.

Is that a little....odd.

I think that sound was Daniel just randomly moving around. There are several more of the same kind of sound before and after Jonas threw his punch. It looks to me like the suit got his right forearm up in time to deflect the punch. Standing with his feet in that stance, a direct block would have rocked him back and he wouldn't have been in positon to throw a straight right, a weak left jab at best.

No, he grabbed Jonas' fist with his right hand. If you'll look again, you'll see that Jonas' arm was held in place for a second or two after he threw the punch, then both his arm and the Watcher's right arm moved down (either because Jonas was pulling away or because the Watcher shoved Jonas' hand down).

Also, he was still standing straight up when he caught the fist. While that would rock most people off balance, I think the point was to emphasize that the guy is very strong.

There's some really good screencaptures in this thread (thanks to Balmung).

EDIT: KilltheSmiley, yeah, for the guy to so effortlessly handle Jonas' punch is odd. I know he's bigger than Jonas and probably stronger anyway given his "profession," but I still kind of wonder if it implies superhuman strength.

I almost think it's because they're trained for these kinds of situations, you know? Their being able to do what they do probably doesn't just come to them overnight

OK, so when I read some stuff on spin programming, it said that the programmed have photographic memories (kinda weird, since they don't remember the abuse because of fractured personality). Anyway, could it be that programming could make a person super-strong and/or respond quicker than the average person?

Thats what I was thinking...Its wierd. It almost kind of coresponds with the idea that Bree maybe not be human...

Its kind of freaky.

Here are my thoughts on the watcher's strength.

1) he probably works out every day, considering the dangers of his job.

2) even though it looks really intimidating when he catches his punch, any idiot knows how intimidating it would be. so if he could very possibly have done or practiced doing something like that before; especially if he knows he's not allowed to use direct force in his job.

3) have someone punch your hand as hard as they can, while you try to catch it standing straight up. see? it's not quite as hard as it looks, and it definitely won't knock you off balance. the hard part is to actually catch it and not let it slip out of your hand.

4) the mind is an amazing thing. i don't know how many LG15 fans watch Trigun, but there's a character named Legato who has the ability to control people's minds. he causes them kill themselves [and very violently, i might add], in ways that normally would seem impossible. even though it's a manga, and not real, the mind really does have a lot of power, and a brainwashed/ mind controlled person could appear to be much stronger than deemed normally possible.

OH! epiphany! when you're on certain drugs [can't remember it for the life of me, i'm not a druggie lol], you get INSANELY strong. i saw a video where it took 5 cops to hold one guy down, because he was soo strong from the drugs.

Edited - for spelling

I didn't see the watcher grab Jonas' fist, but I did see the watcher raise his fist to punch Jonas, but he stopped when Bree threw herself in front of him.

However, after watching this video, I have the weirdest feeling that Jonas is part of the order. It never came until now.

a lot of people are getting that feeling, but i haven't seen any solid evidence against jonas. there are some theories, and i'll admit he could be a part of the order, but i don't think it's very likely.

While I have no strong feelings about Jonas' allegiance either way at this point, but intially, when he said he was going out there, I thought, "he's totally part of the Order."

i don't get why. he was the one that wanted to "storm the castle" all along.

he's been dying to open up a can off whoop-@$$ on the order

What I see suspicious about Jonas is that he is willing to go so far out on a limb for Bree and Daniel. I mean, he's known them about two months or so, and he's just jumping at the chance to go head-on against the Order. I know he was lonely, but that is just unbelievable to me.

Unless...he is Bree's brother or some other family member. While I don't agree that he was embracing Bree in this last video, it has been said he was. If he is a member of her family, it would explain the possible "embrace", and Jonas' strange compulsion to protect Bree.

At this point I don't find it unbelievable, to be honest. Two months is plenty of time to get to know and even love people. Especially if you were lonely before.

Also, it's not just about Bree and Daniel at this point, though I don't doubt that's a lot of it. Jonas is in this as much as either of them now. Just as the Order wouldn't have let Daniel go all those months ago when he was messing up things for them, they wouldn't let Jonas go after all he's done. He's their target now too, so if he wants to take on the Order and finish things, it's probably because he sees it as the best way to resolve it for everybody. For him there's no walking away now either.

It doesn't look like an embrace to me in an affectionate sense either (it'd be a hell of an awkward moment for one anyway). Even were it one, though, I don't think that would necessarily entail more than the affection/love/whatever that Jonas probably has for both Bree and Daniel at this point.

Really, I don't think Jonas has gone to any extra lengths for Bree's sake than he has for Daniel's. The invitation to his home was always to the both of them, and since he's come to know them, he's certainly shown that he cares for them both. When Daniel was kidnapped, Jonas stayed up most of the night worrying about him, drove the longest "local" drive in history, and snooped in the back of a guy's van when the dude could have been some psycho (and this isn't even including taking part in the "exchange" where they rescued Daniel).

I think the reason most people consider it an embrace is that when Bree jumped in front of Jonas, he grabbed her from behind and held her to him longer than most people would have. I checked and the watchers mouth wasn't moving so he didn't say anything to them so there wasn't any reason to. Unless he just wanted to try and stare the guy down, but still, it was deffinately longer than needed. And she just stayed there longer than normal and didn't try to move. Plus the title watch this, Jonas throwing a punch and Bree jumping in the way, and him holding her to him was the only really big thing that happened besides the fact that the watcher was there.

So, some are assuming that the watch this title was for the show of a bit of romantic connection. You know, hinting at something for the future. Though, I'm not sure if it was to show any romantic significance. I don't think it does, but it does add a little spice for those of us who love to think up theories. :D
