Why was this lonelygirl15 such a big deal?

Can anyone tell me why lonelygirl15 is such a big deal? I have never heard a thing about her until I read an article that yahoo had about her. Why is a home schooled 16 year old interesting?

now, it would a lot of writing to answer that question. part of her allure was the mystery behind her. if you read my blog back to mid-august, you'll get a feel for the main events.
