Bree's "Characteristics"

ok, so we all know that bree was chosen for a ceremony. apparently
"The Order takes these girls who show potential, at birth, and place them in controlled homes. Apparently there are thousands of them. But once they hit puberty only a fraction of the percentile develop the characteristics needed for the ceremony."
now if these characteristics are things like innocence and being somewhat naive, then why so many? if they were in a controlled home being sheltered from the world they could make anybody like that. also, how do you know what someone's personality is going to be when they are just born? and bree stressed that the characteristics develope during puberty. this to me seems to mean that these characteristics are physical. i don't know if this means they need a certain rare blood type, or whatever, but i just thought i'ld throw it out there. :)

I don't understand what kind of 'potential' an infant would have. Unless there is something abnormally wrong with the baby, they're pretty much all the same (believe me, I'm a mother).

^^ I agree with your blood type statement. It's got to be something along those lines.

Agreed that it has to do something with genetics. I'm thinking not only blood type, but bloodlines. I think that it would be a great honor for her parents, if they are part of the religion, to surrender their child to be raised for participation in the ceremony. I don't think that she was kidnapped, or stolen, or sold, I think her parents recognized that she could be a very important figure in their religion, once the Order Ob/Gyn and Order Geneticist pointed it out and handed her over, to be raised appropriately and according to the ceremony's parametors.

I think it had something to do with her DNA. I'm sure her 'dad' had some part in creating her, but not how we all think.

it had to be genetic and apearance.
as i've mentioned in another thread..
remember the birthmark we saw on her back in "Swimming."
It resembles the watcher symbol.

But if 1000's of girls are chosen, I don't think it can be something as chance-driven as a birthmark.

maybe they were 1000's of test tube babies made with specific genetics...specific to what, I don't know...but specific in a way that not everyone is born with them.
