"Freedom" Theme

Not sure where I should post this, so feel free to move it or just throw it away. But I thought we should readdress the topic of Free Will. In "Back Home," Daniel mentions "Freedom."
He is referring to a man who spends most of his year dealing with mortgages for a living, and the other two months homeless, hopping trains.
Mortgages are the money paid off by homeowners. I thought it was interesting that this is his job when he prefers a free-er life.
Daniel calls this man's life "freedom." So, that could mean several things about his concept of Freedom:
1. Riding on a train for free.
-not being bogged down by payments
-not having control over where you are going, just enjoying the ride
2. Being homeless.
-again, no need for taxes.
-no attachment to one certain place.. therefore no feelings of homesickness (like what he experienced)
3. Independence.
-not being held back by others
-only responsible for yourself (not Bree too, in his case)
-no need to rely on others (Jonas)
4. No expectations.
-no standards set
-no desire for love from another (Bree) or family (his parents)
5. Postconventional-ism.
-this is a psychological term. the theory is that postconventional stage is one reached by few people. it is the stage in which one does not act according to political, social, or economic morals, but by true morals- by what is just. these are people that sacrifice a life by societal standards to explore life above law.
If I think of any other connections, I will add them.
I think it is important to connect this to the statement by Aleister Crowley: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law."
Free Will.
The belief that people have the right to follow their own prerogatives. However, the meaning of this "Freedom" is up for interpretation.
So, what is Daniel's interpretation? How does it differ from that of Bree? of Jonas, Gemma, OpAphid, Tachyon, etc.?
Again, if this is useless, just delete it. No offense will be taken.
I think it's an interesting theme to explore, that's all.
