The Story Ideas in Proving Longitude Wrong

So I'm not exactly sure about this, but I have some ideas about Proving Longitude Wrong (and some questions).
"If you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you're going, and then you might run into things that aren't supposed to be there -- like Danielbeats." She was going on with her life, but she didn't follow longitude, she followed the wrong things (the wrong religious path: her parents, for example, sound fine), she didn't trust people who told her it was the wrong way and had them hanged. Three hours later she ran into trouble. Fake ceremoney. The business with Danielbeast and the fake ceremony was the island. Only two survived. The cult killed her for her emerald ring -- lots of ideas for what that could be. We don't know about the other survivor -- presumably, he or she lived.
Also, she says "Danielbeats", plural. Why plural? And, why longitude? More location ideas?
Guys, I don't buy into all this Cassie stuff. I think that she was a one-time narrative device. She shows us more about Bree's character and past. That's it. Done. Gemma is to add a demension, and to tell us some about the past and the "community". By the way, the cult and the community might not be exactly the same thing, or maybe not all of the community is bad.
I also agree that there will probably be some more drama to the plot, but that it won't get as dark as some people seem to think it will.
Sorry for this long post, its basically absolutely everything I think about the present situation. Thoughts?
