His purpose

You think that Jonas is supposed to fight the Order? Was that his parents last wish, for him to continue the fight? Hence trusting a kid with a shitload of money?

If this is true, it may help with figuring out Alex. She might either be trying to discourage him, or f**k with him so he turns into Bruce Wayne. Jonas himself described himself as Bruce Wayne, perhaps that was random foreshadowing.

Any thoughts?

I've always figured that he had more of a destiny than to financially support Bree and Daniel, and flirt with Bree.

I know, he has to be here more than just to f**k around.

I mean, what has he really added to the plot, besides shelter, and a bizarre mystery surrounding his family?

  • Tension between Daniel and Bree
    Alex
A means to point out Daniel's Alcoholism
    Sex
A clearing of some loose ends (breaking into Alex's office)
    Guns and violence

Tension between DB and Bree is not really solving anything at all. (I could give less of a shit about that unless it breaks apart the resistance)

Sex in this show is kinda boring.

Alex fits into the mysterious family category.

What lose ends? All that happened is that we got even more confused on his family.

The gun is gone, and no one has been hurt, unless you count his emergency room visit after the screwdriver incident.

And the alcoholism was boring and pointless, it just ate up some time while the plot was in a rut.

yeah but -
1) Jonas is hot as hell so they probs get more female viewing from that
2)He's added a lot of fun to the series
3) He did say before he met B + DB that he doesnt really do anything, hes just a (really hot) rich kid.
4)Oh, and hes got a car which people keep using to escape ¬.¬
............. you'd think he'd learn :P

ehhhh...

What does number three have to do with anything?

And yes, he has a car. So, three things.

But story-wise, what does he do?

So far, he seems more like a distraction.

Well I think he is pretty essential finance-wise. To the 'story' more than the plot though. If you think about it, Bree and Daniel couldn't have kept on running forever if they didn't have money without us all going "oh OK this makes LOADS of sense'. So he is a solution to that problem.

He has also provided them many times with shelter (not just because of his money), esspecially the bunker, which was formerly used by the resistance. Now, nothing was done about the information it holds really, but it will probably come in handy in the future.

And I think also, a big thing about Jonas, is that he provides Bree and Daniel a link to the actual resistance. Bree and DB were against the Order, but they didn't know much about it, or if there was a fight against it, or how to escape. Now Jonas's parents were/are part of the Resistance, which not only gives a name to the fight against the Order, but potentially more help in the future.

Simply put, without Jonas, Bree and DB would have been caught or given up ages ago.

Edited to fix some spelling mistakes, please ignore any of those or any grammer issues :p

Plus, Jonas has willingly helped Bree and Jonas fight and evade the Order; furthermore, he has turned out not to be an enemy. He has also helped them seek out and solve clues that have led them to revelations about the Order. True, he doesn't yet seem to have a purpose in the grander scheme of things, but Daniel didn't either at the very beginning. And Jonas isn't completely committed to the cause, an issue he has addressed in "1500 Miles" and related videos, when he was questioning why he's helping Bree and Daniel. But it's also nice to have an outsider's perspective, someone who's able to question developments and provide another opinion.

Well I think storywise Sarah might be even more useless, between the 2 of them though they have visual pleasure for all sexes covered. Appart from that I think 2 characters isn't enough for a show. With the romances around at the moment all characters are at least a bit involved in what's happening. I like it when more people are around in the vids, in fact I would like to see Taylor back aswell!

Adding to the plot does not mean solving the plot. It can equally mean adding to the complexity of the plot or characters. In that, Jonas has added quite a bit.
Just because you personally find the plot points of the sexual tension and alcoholism boring doesn't mean they aren't valid plot points. Not everyone will like everything that is done to further the story. In those cases they've added complexity to the story and rounded out the characters personalities. Without Jonas, it would have been hard to keep Bree and Daniel from being just cookie-cutter characters.

Yes, the gun is gone. It served it's purpose to up the heat of the story and drive Alex away and now that it has done such a grand job of furthering the plot they have no more use for it. That doesn't mean it was a pointless exercise.

Perhaps not so much loose ends as gaping holes in information. Before breaking into the office, we had absolutely no picture of how pervasive and powerful the Order was. We thought Alex was a sweet, throw-away character at best and a love interest for Daniel at worst. We thought the trio had found a safe haven. After the break-in, all that changed. BTW that is classic story telling! Find a solution easily, then show that it isn't a solution after all.

Frankly, at this point I'm finding Bree to be the deadwood. Her rescue and subsequent "deprogramming" has hurt the resistance immeasurably. It has put the characters into contention with each other and taken the focus off finding out what the trait is and how to inoculate people against it to foil the HoO.

True, True, and True, but about the big picture. Is he supposed to follow in his parents footsteps, and fight the Order? Or does he just do basic things, and not much else?

I just think he might find out what happened to his parents and really get into the whole anti-Order idea.

It's not that I do not like Jonas, I would just like to see him do something bigger.

DB is Bree's guardian, Bree is the chosen girl, and Jonas... is a rich skateboarder that likes foosball? Or maybe the "first man" in regard to Bree being chosen.

Can't he have a big role too? He has certainly been around enough.

Let him do something big. Blow some shit up. Solve a puzzle. Get a special skill, other than the ability to write checks faster than anyone else.

Allright, maybe not blow shit up.

LOL! Snicker! Just whatever you do, don't give him any ideas! LOL!

I was watching the Jonas in Bed video again...(don't go there, children. I was wondering if any info was missed. ) And I noticed that Jonas has a throw away line about him thinking it was cool that his first kiss with Bree was recorded. He adds, "For posterity." and he grins. It leads me to think that rather than this being a testosterone filled crowing and beating of the chest, it's a declaration of his feelings being deep enough to last the long term.

Since we have nothing better to do here until Monday, does anyone want to speculate?
