Stop the porn

I know it is not the fault of the mods or the creators, but several times in the past few days I've seen porn on the forums. Last night the images were up for a few hours.
I'd hate to have images no longer be allowed because the vast majority of us are not the problem.
I suggest a "report to a moderator" button somewhere that could maybe send a 911 to whoever is in charge to look at the problem and take care of it immediately.

aw, that sucks.
Report in the canned spam section.

I'm not sure if such a function could be added but if it were it would only go to BK.
I know which posts you are refering to and I was the one to delete them. They were in forums I don't read and I found out about it from another user posting about it in this section. I would say that since PMs are tedious if posting to multiple people it's best to post in canned spam if there is a problem.
On a more positive note, I'd like everyone to know that we frequently check the new members list for spam and porn links, posts and names and often cut them off at the pass. This site gets a lot of traffic and is a major target of porn and spam sites because of this.

Gidget,
While there are currently seven moderators for the LG15 forum, there have been prior problems concerning the deletion of spam in late or very early hours. Most of the mods live either on the east coast or in the midwest and thusly aren't up at 1 a.m. when spam (often of the pornographic variety) hits the forum. I know that I'm done with classes for the summer and will usually check in around midnight CST before I head off to bed. I'll often nab a few spammers but it's unlikely a few spamming posts necessitates a "night guard" to zap any posts that may appear after all of the mods have gone to bed.
I don't think a button alerting mods of spam or porn will be very helpful, honestly. As I said, the mods will either be away or asleep with their computers turned off and unable to render a prompt response.
I agree with Sami that the best thing to do is report spam in the Canned Spam section of the forum OR if you see a mod online (illuminated in green at the bottom of the index) you can PM them with the link to the post.
I realize this doesn't exactly help...but we're trying to figure this sort of stuff out. In the meantime, I'm sorry that you guys have to witness pornographic images before they're deleted. I am not a fan either.

Eh. *shrugs* You're an
ambassador. It is your job to be welcoming.

Gidget,
My suggestions to you is just ignore the spam. Why bother reporting it when the moderators don't consider us worth their time? They have nine moderators for day and zero for night. Somebody will report it in the morning and you wouldn't get any action before then anyway.

I think a function could be added. I know of a forum that seems to be based on BBCode but I could be wrong, that has a report button.
But they are extremely strict when it comes to reporting.

Thank you for the lengthy explanations tigerlilylynn and Flautapantera, I know that nobody wants this to happen and that you guys are doing the best you can. I was just looking for a way to help if it was possible. It is sick that people do that. I didn't understand what the Canned Spam area was before, thanks for explaining it.

If the creators haven't brought on international mods to cover the wee hours of the night on a volunteer basis that's on them, not on us. Do not confuse "occasionally sleeping, working, having lives" with "don't care". That's grossly unfair to all mods, ops, and ambassadors past and present.

My apologies.

I was unaware that it was the creators who have created this problem.
However, don't think that it's all international traffic at night. I live in the Pacific NorthWest and I'm often on the boards til 5AM PST. Also don't assume that all people live the 9-5 life. It's a prejudice that's still out there. Swing and Night shifts do exist and people who choose those lives deserve more than the short shrift they normally receive.
I apologize to all the moderators out there who are doing a great daytime job. I know some of you
have interrupted sleep and lives to give some thought to the night fans.

I appreciate that. I really do.
Well, if you will excuse me, it's time to go beat up on some insensitive young men.

There's little one can do for a forum that's as open as this.
For a more exclusive forum I own, I have it to where people can only see forum "Mandatory Reading" after they register, and only after they've posted once in that forum can they see the rest of it (and "Mandatory Reading" disappears from their view). That pretty much reduces spam to zero.
However, it's a very big hoop for members to jump through. I don't see it as being feasible here.

You need mods from different bits of the world, don't you? There's plenty of eurocrackers you could choose from for the job. That way we can cover all hours.

I'm online a lot. I could do it.
*shrug*.
I don't know if I'm really all that great a candidate though...

We definitely appreciate everyone who reports spam. It's very helpful. I know the last thing I do before going to bed most nights and first thing in the morning is check the site and get rid of spam that might have been posted during the night. Other mods do the same. I'll also be looking around online and see if there are any improvements we can make to the forum to avoid spammers.
That being said, it would be great to have a moderator who was on during the hours that are nighttime for the rest of us. We'd also love to have chat admins regularly on those times. But we aren't going to add a person just to fill that spot. The person should have the same basic traits we look for in moderators (and chat admins) and be willing to fulfill all the duties of a moderator.
I'm always happy to accept PMs from folks who are interested, but be aware that we likely wouldn't find someone right away. So in the meantime, please report spam and I hope folks will be patient if it's deleted in the morning.
