[DROP][FOUND] Santa Cruz - 5/26/07

Aja arrived on campus around 12:50pm. She had no trouble locating the building in the video. They found the bench almost immediately with the envelope in plain sight.

They opened the drop at the location. The parcel was a plain white envelope. Inside was:

A VIAL
labeled with 'J8'. It looks to have air or gas inside. It is essentially empty.
A brown piece of cardboard was inside.
This read "you know what to do with the vail, I will be expecting you to demonstrate that the work has been accomplished"

(vial was spelled wrong, to read vail)
After closer inspection, the cardboard was actually two pieces taped together. She pulled them apart.
inside the cardboard was a card. It looked to be hand drawn. It looks like a tarot card. It has a castle with fire up around it. Above the castle is a picture of a phoenix rising from the ashes. The phoenix is in the middle and above it is a double faced head.

Across the top reads:

XVI + I

across the bottom it reads:

athentor

There was nothing on the backside of the card.
Aja will make a video and upload all the pictures as soon as she returns home. If it is too late when she gets home tonight, she'll do it first thing in the morning.

I don't know. He'll need to give us some more information if it's a drop, though. UC Santa Cruz might be a nice candidate for the location, given the academic/research theme of the game and the previous drop at Princeton University.

Do we know anyone in the area? It might not hurt to start looking for a retriever now, just in case...

I've got a few friends and a sister out in the SF/Berkeley area, but if we can find someone local to Santa Cruz, that would be better.

Or it'll be Memorial Day weekend that weekend -- anyone care to take a short vacation?

My daughter is in Santa Cruz ( there's one more for your list Deagol ;) ) But she's leaving town for Memorial Day, so she can't help. :(

I think Aja is in Stanford.

Should we start a new thread for recruiting and organizing retrievers in the area?

Aja's profile

I know her form the Maddy ARG. Seems like a sensible person to me. I'll try PMing her.

deagol wrote:Hi Aja, us in the Facility J ARG are pretty sure there'll be a drop in Santa Cruz on the 26th, and we're now scouting for retrievers close to the area. I think you're in Stanford, about an hour away. How do you feel about giving us a hand? or, if you know anyone that's closer, that would be of great help too. Here's the thread:

Hopefully other candidates will come forward, but so far the closest ones are a bit farther, from SF/bay area.

Thanks!
Hi Deagol!

I'll be happy to help if I can. Unfortunately, I have a friend coming in from Scotland that weekend and I'm not sure what our plans are yet. I suppose I could talk him into making a trip to Santa Cruz!

Let me know if you find someone else, but feel free to put me down as a possible candidate. If nothing else, I could most certainly go on Sunday the 27th. Santa Cruz is only a 45-minute drive from here.

Does it matter that I don't know anything about Facility J? Does this mean I will have to learn how to use iMovie? Haha.

Let me know what you find out!

Aja :)

Hi everyone!

So I just spent the last couple hours reading up on Facility J and I have to say that you guys totally rock - those puzzles looked tough! This appears to be a fairly well put-together ARG. Was there a period of inactivity from mid-April to mid-May? Or am I missing some forum threads?

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and let you know that I'm doing my homework in case I'm needed for the drop. I'm pretty sure I could drive down first thing on Saturday morning - do you think the drop will be there by then? I'm not meeting my friend until early afternoon. Plus, the earlier I go the better - I imagine traffic into Santa Cruz is going to be a bitch since it's Memorial Day weekend and all.

I'll try to keep up with the forum this week, but anything important comes up please PM me.
