We're supposed to eat pork for good luck (on Jan 1st.) in my family...though I have no idea where that comes from.
My friend from Texas said something about beans for new years..like baked beans I think..I can't remember. Does anyone know this?

Black-eyed peas, perhaps? I know that it's a tradition to eat them for good luck on New Year's Eve or Day.

ohh yeah black eyed peas some corn bread and some greens with pepper sause sounds great to me(ahh I guess the rednecks in my family did get to me)
