Well there's a couple reasons, but I personally think that it comes down to the execution of the post whoring and how the, erm, "post-whorer" reacts to his/her post count being upped.
It also might be the fact that sometimes a post whore can venture dangerously into troll territory.

As long as the "post-whore" doesn't start to believe that by virute of having nothing else to do he or she merits some sort of special consideration.
There are few people more annoying than a whore who begins to believe her own bullshit about providing some sort of valuable service to society.
