Ditto regarding the great reveal. I am every advertisers wet dream...I see something on TV and I want it. So if I see some candy that I like in a video and I don't have any on hand, odds are that I will go to bed cranky because I didn't get my fix

It's official!! I'm getting married September 28, 2007!!
I agree with what others are saying about it being blatant. No jingles, and nothing out-of-character for anyone. Aside from that, I say go for it!

My name is Nicole and I'm a Cassie-holic.
* Merv closes it, and gives his attention to Nicole =P
* Nicole22 melts
* Merv saves some Nicole for his cookies
<Merv> They gotta be loved now
<Nicole22> awwwww!!!

Voted 'the show must go on'. Although I really dislike product placement, I'm all for supporting the creators. I always click ads after every vid I watch just to be sure they're getting something from me watching the vids.

As long as the ceremony doesn't suddenly require eating a Snickers bar, it works.
Personally, one of my favorite shows - Entourage - uses product placement left and right. The funny thing is that the producer says he's not getting money for it, those are all just items he likes.
I think somewhere in the middle between that and total corporate whore works fine. If Bree is having a Coke while they're figuring out what they're going to do, I'm cool with it. Or if Jonas notes a Johnny Cash lyric and says "I have that on my iPod," that's totally fine.
In many respects, using actual products will actually help the show in heightening the faux-reality aspect of it. Obviously in moderation, but certainly it should be there.

I see it this way: It's better to have one episode with candy commercials and use it to generate income that ensures more episodes can be produced, than to decline the offer, go broke, and end the series.
Just integrate it into the plot. Make it an important lead to Daniel or The Order or something...that way, the guys can study it the whole episode long, mention the brand name a couple of times, and the plot still moves on.
Or it could be a message from Tachyon, hidden in the text on the wrapping. There're enough possibilities. As long as The Order's vans don't suddenly sport giant M&M commercials on them, all is well.
"Friends" does it pretty well; never really mention the name, and the food products were only shown in the kitchen, the bottled waters only when they were drinking them, etc.
just keep it reasonable, guys. Maybe even like another "Bree's breakfast in bed", getting some candy for some special occasion, and showing a quick shot of all the candy, including one or two big names.
like i said; as long as it's reasonable. we don't need Hershey's vlogs!!

In fact I applaud you for keeping it going as long as you have, and keeping it free for us, which earns you a long row of gold stars in my book. And it's not like my opinion has any weight in the grand scheme of things, but I say go for it. I am pretty sure I could survive a little product placement (I have for 23 years) and if it lines your pockets a little bit then awesome, you guys definitely deserve it. Just please for the love of god don't start inserting commercials into the episodes! I don't watch TV for a reason.
lookyz wrote:Especially given that character are "real" - they're gonna like real products. We all trust you not to be total shills! I think we're all so desensitized it will barely be noticed. It adds a good dose of realism to have Bree say "Can I have a coke?" than "Can I have a cola?" Same with candy - I don't think I've ever wanted a general "candy," but something specific ("give me a snickers or you die now").
