We're pretty sure the names are case sensitive. So maybe you didn't cap it? I dunno if it's true or not I don't know myspace that well lol.
I entered 'star' and it worked.

Yay! Must remember that Jay19 uses the codon abbreviations, I don't remember that being part of Walter's toolbox.
ETA: Sandi Star? Very superheroine secret identity.
I don't understand. I got STAR from the full aminoacid names, not abreviations. Or are you referring to something else?

Right, but abbreviating the full amino acid names with their one-letter abbreviations (i.e. VAIL) is something that the original PM never did.

Yes, but seeing as in my mind 'The' is part of the name, I didn't use just put star.

So I was enjoying Sandi's background image from both her myspace and YouTube profiles (too big to display here):
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa10 ... WavBak.jpg
and realized I had seen that before. Yes, Mt. Fuji right there in the middle was an easy clue:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_ ... f_Kanagawa
The Great Wave off Kanagawa (神奈川沖浪裏, Kanagawa oki nami ura) is a famous woodblock printing by Hokusai. It was published in 1832 as the first in Hokusai's series 36 Views of Mount Fuji and is the artist's most famous work.
...
The Great Wave served as the inspiration for the logo of sports brand Quiksilver.
Quiksilver is well known for its line of surfwear and other related apparel, who also own the Roxy brand.
So that led me to look closer at Mt. Fuji:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Fuji
A text of the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter says that the name came from "immortal" (不死, fushi, fuji) and also from the image of abundant (富, fu) soldiers (士, shi, ji) ascending the slopes of the mountain.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_o ... boo_Cutter
The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter (Japanese: 竹取物語; Taketori Monogatari) is a 10th century Japanese folktale, also known as The Tale of Princess Kaguya (かぐや姫の物語, Kaguya-hime no Monogatari). It is considered the oldest Japanese narrative.
It primarily details the life of a mysterious girl called Kaguya-hime who was discovered as a baby inside the stalk of a glowing bamboo plant. She is said to be from Tsuki-no Miyako (月都, "The Capital of the Moon") and has unusual hair that "shines like gold".

immortal.

I remember that story. When I was a kid, I watched a Sesame Street movie called "Big Bird in Japan" where the gang went to Japan and learned about the legend of Kaguya-hime. I always thought she had been associated with the moon?

Now that I think about it, there are some pretty famous Japanese gardens in the Bay Area. One of them (Hakone Gardens, in Saratoga) has a pretty substantial bamboo forest. Hmmm...

Sandi logged on to her myspace yesterday, and the only change I noticed was she added one of those silly Palooza Heads in the "about me" section. The song she chose is "Nature Of The Experiment" from Tokyo Police Club. These are the lyrics:
We've got our tracks covered
Thanks to your older brother
It's not the moonlight that sets me off
It's not the morning that makes me scoff
It's my impeccable disorder
Where I keep on falling for her
It's not the way my mother talks
It's not the people that she mocks
It's the nature of the experiment
It's the patterns of my temperament
It's the nature of the experiment
They're taking me in increments
We're halfway up the bracket
The rain comes through my jacket
It's not the stones inside my shoes
It's not the risk of what's to lose
It's an ancient Russian proverb
But I doubt it's ones that you've heard
It's not the cracks beneath the floor
It's not the fact that it's a chore
It's the nature of the experiment
It's the patterns of my temperament
It's the nature of the experiment
They're taking me in increments
