Gee-rowl!! You've all discovered my not-so-secret love of literature! ;)

Seriously, though - quote a song lyric or a quote from a poem and you're mine...:)

I'm nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody too?
Then there's the pair of us - Don't tell!
They'd banish us you know!

I <3 Emily Dickinson!

Hey FP, have you read One Hundred Years Of Solitude...I am reading that now and I LOVE it!

Kenny - I haven't read OHYoS but I've heard of it. I'll write it down and look into it. :)

Mmm, Dickinson is one of my favorites! She's brilliant... I love Whitman's "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd." I read it every-so-often to remind myself of how wonderful it is! Here's one of my favorite ED poems:

A little overflowing word
That any, hearing, had inferred
For Ardor or for Tears,
Though Generations pass away,
Traditions ripen and decay,
As eloquent apears--

They shut me up in Prose -
As when a little girl.
They lock me in the closet -
Because they liked me - still.

Still? Could themselves have peeped
And seen my brain go round -
Thy might as well have lodged a bird -
For treason - In the pound -

Who has but to will
And easy as a star,
Abolish his captivity -
And laugh - No more have I.

That is one of my Faves!

Hee, okay, so I hate posting a bunch of stuff that only interests me and a few others, but....

I was timid in posting this one at first because it's pretty...depressing. But it's such a great Dickinson poem I had to type it up for you all. I'm sure you've heard of it...

The Heart asks Pleasure--first--
And then--Excuse from Pain--
And then--those little Anodynes
That deaden suffering--

And then--to go to sleep--
And then--if it should be
The will of its Inquisitor
The privilege to die--

Honestly, the melancholy/death poems are my favorites.

Yea, I read that once somewhere...but ED is at her best when she is writing about death xD

It is no problem, I didn't even have to get up ;) I knew those two by heart! But there is one ED poem I loved, but I can't for the life of me remember it. It was something about a road, and a light....rofl...but it was great...I wrote an essay comparing it to Acquainted with the night

Well, since I happen to have a book next to me filled with ED poetry, I'll try to find the one you're talking about!

Have you ever listened to "Howl" by Allen Ginsberg? Crikey - everyone should listen to that poem at least once in their lives! You don't get the same understanding with a straight read-through...

I haven't found it so far that I know of...but "light" and "road" are sorta hard topics to go on. :) I'm still looking! I'm determined to find it now.
