That's just one of many examples of internet l33t speak (which is short for the way that supposedly elite internet users communicate). I'm pretty sure that it started in the gaming community but has spread to be pretty common on the internet, mostly with the younger crowd in my experience. Personally I think it's pretty silly and I generally get a bad impression of people when I see them using it. *shrug*
Ahh, ok. *smacks forehead* I probably should have realized that. I find it to be humorous more than anything else and have used it in sarcasm before, but actual serious conversation with l33t speak just seems to be a coping mechanism for the fact that the poster cant spell or use proper grammar.

[aside musings] I've been on the internet since the early '90's, and it's really odd how something like l33t just seemingly sprang up over night. [/aside musings]

It's one thing to not know how to spell. It's another thing to not spell properly on purpose. What is the point then, exactly?

Eh Under chit chaty circumstances it's use would be one thing, at least overlookable.... But I agree with mirage that the subject is adult so they should reconsider such terms.
I agree and have been known to use some of it sparingly myself, but when I see something like "i pwnd j00 like teh n00b u R wit mah l33t hax0rzz!!!!1111one1" I tend to just roll my eyes and do my best to make sure that person never has reason to ever interact with me. I'm also a bit of a grammar nazi though so I may be a special case. :)

I fell like I lost a few brain cells just reading about that...
But you can call me chisa chan.... or cheese.

Vote 'mute in '08! - because Paris Hilton and P. Diddy will both talk about it for months without acctually doing it themselves.

Leet speak is a way of typing used on the internet. It modifies letters with symbols and numbers and weird spellings and whatnot.
