I'm still not convinced Gemma is even dead, I think thats just what Op thinks! But in actuality, maybe brother didn't have the guts to go through with it, and thats what messed things up?

You're quite correct. No proof has been shown that Gemma is actually dead. The same applies to Bree's father.
