Hymn of One seminar (leaked from Craigslist)
Moderator: Moderators
*cough* Because if they're letting the first 35 in, and they're expecting more than that, they wouldn't ask for an RSVP? Nor would anyone actually hold a two-hour seminar on a Thursday afternoon. People have things like "jobs"
Being a hero doesn't mean you succeed in saving the day. It just means you tried.

hum
Even if its legit anyone who goes should probably have an "operator" (as with an ARD drop) to ensure their safety now that the issue has been raised.

This is confirmed from the Creators.rayne100 wrote:Where did you hear this?Broken Kid wrote:Well, gang: the official word I hear is that this is a real Hymn of One event! That's right... no gamejacking or fan-fiction. And it should be quite fun!
I just wish I could go!

I think they've taken this important step in a very irresponsible manner. Here's just a few reasons:
1. I would've never used email, I would use forum and comments PM's. Of course, HoO isn't supposed to be privy of this site, but that's another issue.
2. You never, never say "oh don't tell anyone" and expect it to remain secret. It never happens, and it only introduces distrust, division, and deception within the community.
3. You figure out a way to make sure everyone in the community is aware of this being official, and clearly communicate the OOC objectives and the motivation behind it. A simple announcement by the creators would suffice.
4. You announce this early in the morning, so that you are available to field any issues that come forward in a timely fashion.
5. You don't jump right away on the first week of your brand new ARG and throw this logistically complex event on the community, no matter how much you've planned it. The players also need to plan.
6. Rules of engagement need to be discussed and agreed on, potentially disruptive behavior needs to be foreseen, fully specified, and somehow enforced by the whole community.
7. Again, sharing must be encouraged at every level. Understandably, direct participation in the event would have to be limited, but then those that can't participate need to be assured that information about the event will be available, and everyone'll have total access to whichever insights come from it.
8. I will give the benefit of the doubt and assume no minors have received the invite. That's just common sense.
9. Security needs to be guaranteed for all players, and this is not paranoia or exageration. I'm sure they've thought of this, but they have to realize that they have no control over who's going to show up there, and what some people are prepared to do to make themselves the center of attention. It'd be very naive to hope that there's no one in LA with misguided, or, God forbid, malicious intentions.
I think I'll stop here and let people think about these, discuss, shoot'em down, add their own, or ignore these concerns, whatever rocks your boat.
Good luck and I really hope this has been thought out throughly.

All very well said, and very good points. Perhaps post this again in the C&C thread?deagol wrote:I think I'll stop here and let people think about these, discuss, shoot'em down, add their own, or ignore these concerns, whatever rocks your boat.

Without knowing any more than that it is an officially organized event, my immediate thought is that this is not part of an ARG, so to speak. It's possible it's going to be some kind of informal meet-n-greet or something. But we know they have a new writer with much ARG experience, so who's to say?
I do hope that someone who goes will take a video camera and log the experiences for the rest of us!

I just thought of something! Maybe they are going to film a scene that requires extras. Perhaps members of the cult at the commune, or the actual ceremony itself.
OK, now I'm excited. I'll bet this is it.

Van Nuys Sherman State park sounds strangely familiar. Is it just me?

Yes, but if it's to film a scene, they will do it at their convenience, and if the sun needs to be shining, then they will do at the best time for the shoot.impulse wrote:Yes, they do.Farva wrote:*cough* Because if they're letting the first 35 in, and they're expecting more than that, they wouldn't ask for an RSVP? You know, I hope you're right! That would be a fun idea. Now, something is supposed to be happening on Friday, isn't it? Van Nuys State park is not far from Topanga State Park.longlostposter wrote:I just thought of something! Maybe they are going to film a scene that requires extras. I didn't even think of that, you could be right. How cool would that be?longlostposter wrote:I just thought of something! Maybe they are going to film a scene that requires extras. Perhaps members of the cult at the commune, or the actual ceremony itself.
