What you read was probably what another fan not associated with the creators posted. The creators have not stated that she is canon and I for one refuse to believe she is until they do.

Besides, so far the creators have been pretty good with casting people who are believable actors and make their characters seem real. This Madison girl can't act for beans and everything is really forced. Her friend is pretty good though but that might just be because he's being goofy.

I liked her. I don't think she's annoying at all! I think it could add to the story. Especially if Mr Zipp is Jonas' dad. It would help to explain why he hasn't contacted Jonas and maybe why Alex is so afraid of the order. They may be using her brother as a way to control her.

Well I also have been studying theatre for six years and counting so I'm kind of a snob when it comes to technique and line delivery.

One thing that a lot of inexperienced and untrained actors do is slap their thighs a lot and let out a puff of air before their lines. I didn't notice a lot of air puffage but the part where she is trying to get her goofy friend to go and leave the bird alone, she hits her thighs a lot.
She was also really fake and forced when she was running up the stairs and said "Oh hi. Are you ready?" And she anticipated his lines instead of actually listening to what he was saying like a real person does. She constantly seems to be waiting for her cue.
The only time she seemed more like a real person and not someone trying to be a character was when she was shopping and doing her new segment but that's because she was being a stereotypical newsanchor which is cheesy and forced. If this girl really is a communications major, then she should stick to that and not fanfic.

Renigade, your post was well thought out and thought provoking. Most of it was dead on and I agree with it.

There has been a lot of back and forth on this already, so instead of counterpointing that, let me speak a bit about Alex' innocence:

The Order has known where TAAG were since the first public video of the kids down there. We've repeatedly told the group to stop posting such obvious indicators of their position. They've ignored us. That the Order showed up was inevitable. That the TAAG reacted inappropriately with a rush to judgment that was erroneous, was also inevitable.

That Alex reacted as she did was adult and admirable. Look at it from her POV. A beautiful day, fun with her newest paramour and his friends... Then suddenly she spots the cars. Her first reaction was to get in their car. She expects her group to run. Then Daniel asks "Did you set us up?" She responds, "No, I..."

Daniel interrupts with, "Is this you? Did you do this?" and Jonas starts yelling, "She betrayed us."
She's shocked and horrified that her new found haven, her friends are so quick to turn against her. She starts shouting "Why would I do a..." and again she's interrupted.

She tries to stay calm and on their side, but as they continue to insist that she betrayed them, she changes to "I don't have a choice." This could mean either she had no choice but to work with the Order, or it could mean they are giving her no choice now.

She desparately tries one more time. "They're not after you, they're after me!" She's telling them that because she betrayed the Order they're hunting her down. It doesn't work. They're still hostile.

Then Jonas pulls a gun. Panic everywhere. Even Alex panics. But instead of lashing out against them, she bitterly crys, "I can't leave now" and then, gaining back some calm; resigned to her fate; hating the group that spurned her, aware of the Order breathing down her neck, she lashes out. Tries to hurt, "They don't need you any more."

See how the evidence flows? Alex is innocent in her own eyes but guilty in the eyes of the TAAG. I'm feeling really bad for her right now.

I liked your post until the final line, at which point you proved that the first line was true.

At least she's trying. It takes a lot of courage to put one's own self out here like this and subject theirself to the scrutiny and cruelty that anonymity allows. If nothing else, when surveys find that more people are afraid of speaking in public than they are of dying (which you should probably know as a theatre student), she deserves a little bit of respect.

I know I sure wouldn't do what all these fanfic people do. Yeah, some of them can't act well, but they will make the attempt.

Be critical, yes. Be honest in that criticism, yes. Don't tell somebody to give up. Six years ago could you have acted as you can now? I hope to God that the answer is "no," or your theatre classes were probably a waste of time.

In any event, she's never going to get better if she doesn't try. Hell, the actors in LG15 went to school to be actors, and they've improved tremendously. Sure, they were always pretty good actors since they've been in the series, but I doubt they were always good actors.


Sorry if I seem a little annoyed with you, but I can't ignore something like that. The girl reads this forum. Think she's not going to see that? As critical as I am of this series and the Creators' decisions with it (at times, I've thought of myself as probably the Creators' most reviled fan; they seriously have to hate me by now), I still encourage them, and I still believe they're capable of doing good things (in part because I continue to see them do good things; not perfect, maybe, and not without bad, but the good is there). I don't believe in the idea of "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all," but I do believe in the idea that "If saying something harsh isn't necessary, don't say it."
