It has nothing to do with being in California...it's the short notice and having the damn thing in the middle of a workday. I'm sure there were lots of peole who wanted to attend, but couldn't.
If it were held on a Saturday or in the evening, then I'm sure they would have had a better turn out.

Maybe they did it on purpose during the middle of a work day to keep too many people from showing up.
