-san: Used to show respect
-kun: Used between two males to denote friendship
-chan: This one's the difficult one to understand... It's commonly used to denote someone cute, but is most used by/for girls. A girl can also use "-chan" on a boy's name to show affection. So boys wouldn't use it on other boys (there's actually another one for that, but I won't go into that...) and girls can use it on boys and other girls... Make sense?
