Daniel is trying to figure out what to do, while Bree is acting like a child and playing with her stuffed animals, someone has to stay sane you know. Daniel has so much stress on his shoulders, I don't blame him that he isn't in the mood to swim.
I think this is a really significant point. Did anyone really think about this from Bree's perspective?
1. Her belief in her religion has been turned upside down, and someone she trusted at a very stressful time in her life (Lucy) has really violated that trust.
2. Her view of her parents as the "know all/fix everything" foundation of her life has been shattered. They've told her they didn't know stuff about the ceremony, the drugs they were giving her, etc.
2.a. Her all-powerful parents are powerless to protect her/themselves from what's happening.
3. Her parents are missing - and appear to have ABANDONED HER, willingly or not (from her point of view, I mean).
4. She's unable to be in her own home, the only place she's ever been safe before.
5. She is totally on her own (except for Daniel, who she's always regarded as a friend/peer until now) for the first time in her life, in incredbly stressful and scary circumstances.
I really wonder if Bree isn't in a severe stress reaction, bordering on shock. In this video, she seems very "spaced out" or disconnected to me. She's reverted back a few years to a simpler, safer time, I think. At least temporarily.
I'm not surprised at all that Daniel seems grumpy and/or preoccupied. He's 18-or-so years old, and has a psychological child-girl on his hands, no adults to turn to, and (I assume) somewhat limited funds.
I'd be grumpy too.
